A Nigerian lady has called out a gadget vendor after a laptop she purchased for ₦250,000 in January developed multiple issues, including problems with the speaker, screen, and keyboard. She is now seeking a refund for the faulty laptop.
In a detailed post shared on her X (formerly Twitter) page, she explained her experience with the vendor.
Initially unaware that the laptop wasn’t brand new, she noticed several problems shortly after purchase.
The speaker wasn’t working, and the keyboard became stiff and unresponsive.
Despite her efforts to fix the speaker by downloading a file, the laptop continued to have issues, including the screen flickering and the device frequently freezing.
Facing financial difficulties, the woman attempted to sell the laptop but struggled to get a reasonable offer.
She eventually reached out to the seller for assistance, sharing the full conversation online.
Her post reads:
“I am in a dilemma and I need your help. I bought this laptop from @_mdgadgets on January 9, 2025, for ₦250,000. I didn’t know I would regret it. I’m not very familiar with PCs, so this being my first laptop purchase, I double-checked the specs with a friend who assured me it was okay. He was the only one within my budget.”
“The first issue I noticed was the stiff keyboard, which I assumed was normal since the laptop was UK used. Then, the speaker didn’t work, and I couldn’t adjust the brightness. I found a file online that fixed the speaker, so I thought everything was fine and even shared a post about it.”
“Within a week, the screen began twitching, though it was hard to notice. It didn’t happen often, so I didn’t think much of it. But two weeks ago, the keyboard stopped working entirely, and the laptop started freezing. I didn’t tell the seller about this at first because I didn’t think it was serious. However, when I found myself needing money, I tried selling it.”
“I reached out to him after speaking with a friend who told me the keyboard issue would lower the laptop’s resale value. He told me to bring the laptop to his shop in Ikeja, where we went back and forth about the issues. He insisted the problems were caused by me misusing the laptop, but I can’t mismanage something I bought with my hard-earned money.”
“The laptop cost me ₦250,000, and I’ve only used it for 10 weeks. He even questioned me when I told him about the screen issue, which is minimal but important to him. When I arrived at his shop, I couldn’t find him, and after a series of messages, I met someone who offered me ₦150,000. I refused and asked for ₦180,000, but he wouldn’t meet my demand.”
“I took it to two other places, and the highest offer I received was ₦130,000. The seller then offered to fix the keyboard, but I refused. I was simply asking for the money I spent on the laptop. Should I have told him I was in urgent need of money? Would that have made a difference? He didn’t want to take the laptop back because he knew it was faulty.”
“I later discovered that the laptop had been sprayed and the camera didn’t work. I went back to his office and left the laptop there, requesting a refund. He even told me to wait 2-4 weeks for him to find another buyer and then pay me.”
“All I want is my money. I have pressing needs, and if I had bought a functional laptop, I would have found a buyer willing to offer a fair price. Someone even offered ₦100,000 for a laptop I paid ₦250,000 for in January.”
“Please help me get my money back. I need it urgently.”
