Authorities have recaptured three of the twelve inmates who escaped from the Koton Karfe Correctional Centre in Kogi State during a jailbreak.
The Acting Controller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Sly Nwakuche, made this known during a press briefing at the facility on Monday.
Nwakuche confirmed that one of the correctional officers was killed by the fleeing inmates, describing the incident as tragic.
He assured that security forces are intensifying efforts to track down the remaining escapees.
“The remaining fugitives will be apprehended,” he vowed.
He also urged the public to assist security agencies by providing any useful information that could lead to the rearrest of the escaped inmates.
