Aiyedatiwa secured a commanding victory by polling 366,781 votes, outpacing his closest rival, Ajayi Agboola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 117,845 votes.
The Labour Party (LP) candidate, Olorunfemi Festus, trailed with 1,162 votes, while Abbas Mimiko of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) was among other contenders in the race.
INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof Akinwumi Olayemi Durotimi, who is also the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, announced the results in Akure, the state capital, on Sunday, November 17.
“Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of lawful votes cast, is hereby returned elected,” Prof. Durotimi stated.
Aiyedatiwa’s victory reinforces the APC’s dominance in Ondo State. The governor, who succeeded the late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in December 2023, hails from Ilaje Local Government Area in the state’s southern senatorial district.
In his acceptance speech, Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude to the people of Ondo State for their overwhelming support, pledging to consolidate on his administration’s progress.
The election was widely monitored, with reports indicating a peaceful process across the state.
With this win, Aiyedatiwa begins another term to further his agenda for development and unity in the state.
