Veteran Nigerian musician, Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi, has shut down widespread rumours about his death, declaring he is alive, strong, and in good health.
In a video shared on Tuesday, the music legend countered the false news with a spirited musical performance, singing in Yoruba, English, and Pidgin to make his message clear.
“Hello, my name is Professor Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi. Satan, you don lose o, Satan, you don lose o, you don pafuka. Na lie lie you dey talk, you don pafuka.”
“It is fake news that started a few hours ago claiming that I, Evangelist Obey, have passed on to glory. It is a lie. I am alive, and that is not the word Jesus has written,” the legendary musician added.
The rumour had gone viral on Monday, prompting concern and condolence messages from fans across social media.
However, his personal assistant, Tope Olukole, quickly addressed the situation during a live interview with TVC later that evening.
“Let’s be clear: Ebenezer Obey is alive and thriving ,” Olukole stated.
“He even recently joined his family to celebrate his second child’s spouse 50th birthday.
Rumours of his passing are baseless and entirely unfounded. We’re glad to see him active and well,” he added.
The false news surfaced less than a month after the renowned musician celebrated his 83rd birthday.
