Performs intermediate semiskilled work teaching and coaching gymnastics skills and routines; does related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision of the head coach or Gymnastics Coordinator. This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, and some heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, peripheral vision, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside environmental conditions, noise, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.

Examples of Duties

Instructing and coaching gymnastics skills and routines for developmental gymnasts.

Instructs skills and routines to USA Gymnastics level gymnasts;

Trains gymnasts in strength, flexibility, balance, endurance and coordination;

Develops routines on all gymnastics apparatus;

Instructs all levels of recreational fee classes as needed;

Supervises assigned area of facility;

Interprets program curriculum orally and visually to students and parents;

Insures that safety precautions are observed in all activities;

Reports to head coach or Gymnastics Coordinator orally and in writing on activities, groups or individuals, plans or problems;

Carefully plans combinations and routines for USA Gymnastics competitive levels;

Instructs in correct spotting;

Performs other duties as required.

Typical Qualifications

General knowledge of USA Gymnastics rules and policies, compulsories and code of points; general knowledge of child behavior and coaching techniques; ability to teach USA Gymnastics level 1 through 4 skills and routines for bars, beam and floor.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and experience in competitive gymnastics in college, high school and/or USA Gymnastics and some experience in teaching and coaching gymnastics required.

Member of USGF; ability to qualify for USGF Safety Certification within six months; current CPR and First Aid certification. Valid Virginia driver’s license required.

Expected salary: $15.71 – 21.21 per hour
