Fulham have strongly condemned the racist and homophobic abuse directed at Calvin Bassey following their FA Cup win over Manchester United on Sunday.
Bassey, who scored Fulham’s opening goal in the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, faced online abuse after the match, which his team won on penalties to advance to the quarterfinals.
“Fulham Football Club is utterly appalled at the racist and homophobic abuse received and subsequently shared by Calvin Bassey on social media after yesterday’s FA Cup tie against Manchester United,” the club said in an official statement on Monday.
The London-based club vowed to take action against those responsible, stating, “We will do everything in our power to work with the relevant authorities in identifying the perpetrators of these vile messages and taking the strongest form of action against them.”
Fulham also reaffirmed their commitment to fighting discrimination in football, emphasizing the need for respect and inclusion.
The incident follows a series of similar cases, with Manchester City’s Kyle Walker and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw recently subjected to racist abuse.
Meanwhile, Fulham will face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup quarterfinals on March 29.
