Job Overview
Our client is an operational non-profit organization with a mission to strengthen child protection and prevent child sexual abuse. They currently have an opening for a Finance Officer in Lagos.
Job Responsibilities
Financial Management
● Ensure the availability of funds to support planned operations.
● Coordinate all financial operations of the foundation including billing, cash collection,vendor payment, bank and credit card reconciliation, cash reconciliation, mobile money reconciliation, team member expense reimbursement and payroll functions.
● Manage and prepare the foundation’s yearly budget by collaborating with all departments.
● Compile and make payments of monthly tax deductions (VAT, PAYE, withholding tax etc.).
● Assess monthly bank reconciliation, suggest and pursue resolution for any disparities in the banks’ records, and strategize to uphold consistent accuracy in the organization’s banks’ cash balance.
● Ensure all financial records and history are well documented and prepare supporting documents for annual financial reports for— external audit.
Grant Management
● Collaborate with the program and grant manager to monitor grant expenditure and
ensure effective utilization of funds.
● Ensure compliance with donor requirements and regulations, providing timely and
accurate financial reporting.
● Manage the budget development and tracking for grants and donor funds.
Relationship Building
● Communicate, collaborate, and work with teams, supervisors, and external parties, such as banks and government agencies.
● Develop and maintain strong connections with partners, donors, and other NGO community stakeholders.
● Attend networking events and meetings to enhance the organization’s visibility and donor relations.
● Serve as a point of contact for financial inquiries from external parties, providing professional and comprehensive responses.
Compliance
● Ensure compliance with all financial policies and processes of the foundation and external governmental laws.
● Maintain the highest integrity and ethical standards in all financial transactions and reporting.
● Advise on actions to ensure compliance with laws and regulations to protect the organization’s financial survival.
● Collaborate with auditors and external agencies during financial audits and reviews.
●Stay up-to-date with relevant financial regulations and industry best practices,implementing changes as needed.
Administrative and People Management
● Inform team members, colleagues, and managers of significant financial changes that will impact their work processes.
● Organize, supervise, train, and educate team members on each department’s financial obligations.
● Ensure tracking the utilization of the budget to do a follow-up on receipts.
● Other duties as assigned by the CEO.
Job Requirement
● A Bachelor’s degree in Banking & Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or related fields.
● Work-related experience of 5 to 7 years and financial management within the NGO sector is needed.
● Professional Certification with ICAN or ACCA is required.
● Knowledge of industry laws and regulations.
● The ability to use logical and critical thinking to approach situations.
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
● Demonstrate complex problem-solving ability with excellent decision-making skills.
●Good knowledge in the use of accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage 300 and other software such as MS Excel etc.
● Ability to analyse data and make recommendations based on findings.
