The Federal Government has officially declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, as a public holiday in celebration of this year’s Workers’ Day.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued on Tuesday, on behalf of the government.
Tunji-Ojo emphasized the vital role of workers in the country’s development, highlighting that their hard work and dedication are key to Nigeria’s progress and the global respect it commands.
He commended the workforce for their diligence and sacrifices, stating that the nation’s achievements are largely due to their tireless efforts.
“There is dignity in labour; the dedication and commitment to the work we do is vital to nation-building,” the minister said in his statement.
He reiterated the importance of peace as a driving force behind industrialization and economic growth.
In his message, the Minister encouraged workers to embrace innovation and productivity in their respective fields, urging them to continually strive for excellence.
He also assured Nigerians of the government’s unwavering commitment to the security of citizens and foreigners in the country.
“This administration is fully committed to the security of life and property of every citizen and foreigners in the country,” he assured the citizens.
“While wishing workers a happy celebration, the Honourable Minister urged Nigerians to keep hope alive as the present administration of President Bola Tinubu is committed to the Renewed Hope Agenda he has promised,” he added.
