<p><b>Job description</b>: <b>SUMMARY:</b></p>
<p> Provide a full range of nurse practitioner services in accordance with privileges granted by the Commanding Officer (e.g., supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated.</p>
<p> <b>ESSENTIAL DUTIES &; RESPONSIBILITIES:</b> </p>
<ul>
<li>Treat patients with common acute conditions, illnesses, or minor trauma within accepted protocols, Nurse Practice Acts, and/or in collaboration with a physician.</li>
<li>Collaborate with the physician in the health care of patients with chronic illnesses.</li>
<li>Request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.</li>
<li>Order diagnostic tests as applicable.</li>
<li>Prescribe and dispense medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.</li>
<li>Promote preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.</li>
<li>Coordinates patient care through a continuum and facilitates the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to care, quality and cost effectiveness.</li>
<li>Ensures compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment facility. Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries.</li>
<li>Assesses patients.</li>
<li>Completes orientation and competency verification programs in accordance with (IAW) unit guidelines.</li>
<li>Participates in the orientation of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate.</li>
<li>Serves and participates in committees, functions and other meetings as directed.</li>
<li>Provides relevant and timely information to these groups and assists with decision-making and process improvement.</li>
<li>Participates in customer service initiatives, and medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services.</li>
<li>Ensures a safe work environment, employee safe work habits and patient safety IAW regulatory agencies, infection control policies, and process improvement initiatives.</li>
<li>Must follow site required health screening and immunization requirements.</li>
<li>Maintain regular and punctual attendance.</li>
<li>Performs all other duties as assigned.</li>

<p> <b>Job Requirements</b></p>
<p> <b>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</b> </p>
<ul>
<li>Education: Successfully completed Master of Science in Nursing degree program with specialization as a family nurse practitioner accredited by a national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the US Department of Education.</li>
<li>National Certification: Maintains a current national certification in specialty (i.e., certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center [ANCC] or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners [AANP]).</li>
<li>Must possess and maintain an active, current, valid and unrestricted RN license as well being licensed to the Advanced Practice level IAW the US jurisdiction (fifty States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands) requirements of their currently held RN license to practice independently within the defined scope of practice for their specialty. Non-personal services contract personnel must be licensed in the jurisdiction in which the MTF is located.</li>
<li>Experience/Clinical Competency: Must have a minimum of 24 months in the last 36 months of documented current clinical independent experience and competency in an outpatient family medicine setting. Must have the level of experience and documented current clinical competency to be awarded “Regular” privileges to work independently.</li>
<li>Advanced Life Support Certifications: Must possess and maintains current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support from the American Red Cross.</li>
<li>Must obtain and maintain the site&#8217;s required health screening and immunization requirements.</li>
<li>Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks.</li>
<li>Must obtain and maintain all required documents, certifications, licenses, etc. listed on the credentialling checklist, sent by Katmai&#8217;s Credentialing Specialist, for this position for initial hire.</li>
<li>Ability to effectively read, write and speak English in order to communicate with all patients and other healthcare providers.</li>
<li>Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.</li>
<li>Effectively uses appropriate communication format in addressing professional issues</li>
<li>Excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity in accordance with requirements.</li>
<li>Ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and react quickly in emergency situations.</li>
<li>Knowledge of professional care theories, principles, practices, disease process and procedures.</li>
<li>Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of the pharmacologic agent, including dosage calculations as required. Knowledge of the administrative requirements for proper documentation of a patient&#8217;s condition including disease progress, acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up care.</li>
<li>Knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic word processing, data entry and automated medical records.</li>
<li>Skill in setting up, operating and monitoring specialized medical equipment such as IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units, oxygen analyzers, nebulizers, and other unit specific equipment.</li>
</ul>

<p> All Market contractors are subject to working at a duty location at any of the MTFs or associated sub clinics within the Colorado Military Health System (CMHS)</p>

<p> <b>PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</b></p>
<p> Position consists of sitting for long periods of time, using hands/fingers, handling, reaching with hands and arms, speaking, or translating. Periods of walking, standing, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and lifting boxes weighing up to 30 pounds. Moderate to extended periods of office work with heavy periods of computer usage. May be assigned occasional to moderate periods of analytical tasks requiring extensive reasoning abilities. <p> <b>WORK ENVIRONMENT:</b></p>
<p> Work is performed primarily indoors at a well-lit military treatment facility such as a clinic, outpatient facility or hospital. The environment is normally air conditioned, but conditions may change dependent upon circumstances. Work may need to be performed in a fast-paced environment requiring quick thinking and rapid judgements. Employee will be exposed to a wide variety of clients in differing functions, personalities and abilities. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids, latex, radiation or other contaminants and safety issues. May be exposed to infection or diseases from contact with patients. Work is highly social with patients and can be stressful with a high emotional element. Decisions made may substantially impact patients and their families.</p>
