Tottenham boss, Ange Postecoglou has spoken on the red card issued to Cristian Romero during their defeat to Chelsea on Monday.
The manager refused to blame the South American, but insisted he is a physical player who was just unfortunate on the night.
Tottenham took the lead in the 6th minute through Dejan Kulusevski after the Swede’s shot deflected in off Levi Colwill.
Cristian Romero was sent off in the 33rd minute for his follow through on Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez in the Tottenham box.
That led to a penalty which was slotted in by Cole Palmer.
Micky van de Ven and James Maddison were injured some minutes apart before half-time and Destiny Udogie picked up a second yellow card and was also shown a red card.
Speaking on Romero’s red card, Ange said, “He’s a physical guy, it’s a part of his strength. Today it was deemed he went too far. We just had to cop it.”
On the Maddison and Van de Ven injuries, he added, “It’s too early. With Micky it’s a pretty significant one.”
On Maddison he said, “He got a knock on the ankle, we were down one man already. It made sense to make a couple of changes at that point.”
