Job description: Our Client, one of the largest independent O&G Operator seeking an Environmental Adviser on a contract basis in Aberdeen. Agency Worker /PAYE contractor. Hybrid working arrangements / generous holiday entitlement on offer.

This role supports the Manager – Environment in the provision of a broad range of environmental advice and support to the business, including permit and consent applications and compliance, management system development, audit and incident investigation.

Areas of Accountability, Responsibility and Competence:

Provide advice to the UK business on the interpretation of UK environmental legislation, EU Directives, global treaties and other industry guidance applicable to offshore oil and gas activities

  • Prepare and obtain regulatory permits and consents for operations, wells and projects
  • Assure compliance with UK regulations
  • Ability to engage with the relevant Regulators in a proactive manner
  • Participate in environmental risk management activities (environmental aspects identification (ENVID), EIA, planning, procedures and work instructions), advising on pragmatic and effective risk management solutions in support of operations, wells and project developments and influencing project decision making
  • Support management system development and administration
  • Review, analyse, and report on environmental data management
  • Prepare and deliver training exercises, including awareness training and specific training on environmental issues, standards and processes
  • Management of contracts that are needed to provide services to meet specified environmental requirements (e.g. Waste, NORM decontamination, specialist consultancy services)
  • Participate in environmental inspections, audits and incident investigations
  • Co-ordinate cross discipline engagement – across the HSES function, asset management and operations personnel, project teams, contractors and external consultants
  • Participate in emergency response support as required

Key requirements:

  • Relevant degree qualified or equivalent Environmental professional with extensive on/offshore industry experience in the role
  • A member of a professional body which requires ongoing CPD and working towards Chartered status would be desirable (associate / principal equivalent)
  • Experience of working in a team with oil and gas operating assets, wells and project developments in an environmentally related role
  • Good communicator, both orally and written
  • Audit and investigation experience, ideally Internal Auditor able to carry out internal audits of the Environmental Management System
  • A self-starter willing to take a flexible approach to work requirements with an ability to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Proficient level of experience of any or a combination of the following specific areas will be beneficial:
  • UK North Sea environmental legislation
  • The UK emissions trading scheme
  • Emissions to air – flaring and venting, emissions control and monitoring of combustion equipment, data management and analysis
  • Greenhouse gas management and accounting
  • Water management
  • Waste management
  • Must hold UK required offshore qualifications
