The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the arrest of four Chinese nationals and 101 other individuals in connection with internet fraud in Abuja.
In a statement issued on Friday, the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, revealed that the suspects, including 67 men and 38 women, were allegedly involved in a hotel review job scam targeting European hotels.
The arrests took place on Thursday at a business apartment in the Gudu area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“In its ongoing efforts to clean the nation of internet fraud and other acts of corruption, operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested four Chinese and 101 Nigerians in a business apartment in the Gudu axis of Abuja.
“They were arrested on Thursday, January 9, 2025.
“The suspects, comprising 67 males (including four Chinese) and 38 females were allegedly involved in a hotel review job scam targeting victims and hotels in Europe and other parts of the world,” it read.
The EFCC spokesperson stated that the suspects would be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
It should be recalled that Gistreel previously reported the arrest of 113 Chinese nationals and other individuals in November by Nigeria Police operatives in the Jabi area of Abuja for involvement in high-level cybercrimes and hacking.
According to Police Spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the arrested individuals included Malaysians and some Nigerians. Adejobi noted that the operation involved a coordinated raid on a building near the Next Cash and Carry area in Jahi, Abuja, where the suspects were allegedly using computers and advanced devices to carry out criminal activities.
