Shift: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Days Worked: Mon., Tue., Wed., Thu., Fri.

Responsibilities: The Client is accepting applications for the position of Director of Building and Permits within the Development Services Department.
Under the supervision of the Chief Development Services Officer, the Director of Building and Permits will act as the City’s Master Building Code Official and Master Fire Code Official.

The duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate, administer, and direct the enforcement of all city adopted codes and ordinances.
  • Investigate complaints.
  • Review building and site plans.
  • Supervise the issuance of building permit applications, historic preservation and Fox Walk certificates of appropriateness, on-site building inspections, and issuance of certificates of occupancy.
  • Coordinate fire site plan reviews with the Fire Marshal and the zoning entitlement process.
  • Develop department policy and recommend code revisions for all departments enforcing ICC codes.
  • Manage and direct all licensing programs for the division and assist all City departments.
  • Manage and direct all technical activities for the division and is responsible for code interpretation.
  • Supervise all division staff.
  • Responsible for preparation, administration, and monitoring of the budget.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • This position also requires at least six (6) years of professional experience in a municipal/county setting and at least five (5) years of progressive supervisory experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must obtain the International Code Council’s Master Code Professional certification within five (5) years of hire. Licensed Illinois Architect or Structural Engineer is preferred.
  • Must successfully pass pre-hire requirements including but not limited to a physical, drug screen, and background check.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Structural Engineering or related field.

Travel Requirements:

This position will involve no travel.
