General Description

The Director of American Honors will oversee the honors program and advise and mentor all students therein. They will collaborate with faculty on the honors course schedule, events and transfer seminars for honors students, and the annual symposium in December. This twelve (12)-month full-time position will guide students in the development of their personal and professional goals as well as ensure appropriate readiness for baccalaureate opportunities.

The director will assist in the recruitment and orientation of new students. They will meet several times each semester individually with honors students to discuss their academic and professional goals and maintain student plans.

The director will perform administrative and supervisory responsibilities that focus on student success initiatives and the College’s educational priorities. They will maintain detailed data and records on honors students, plan and execute the annual celebration of American Honors graduates, and advise students through the transfer process.
Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities

· Intrusive advising and monitoring of all honors students and their progress.

· Designs systems to track student participation in experiential learning and outcomes.

· Develops and delivers training in best practices in mentoring.

· Conducts classroom instruction up to 9 hours per week.

· Creates and conducts transfer seminars for honors students.

· Carries out administrative tasks and programs as assigned by the dean.

· Participates in the College governance process.

· Represents the College at conferences and seminars, as needed.

· Participates in all commencement events.

· Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements

· Master’s degree required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

· This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.

· Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

· No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

· Some travel required.
Salary $70,000 to $80,000

Terms of Employment

Full-time position. Flexible schedule to meet department needs. Some evening, weekends, and extended hours will be required. Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on and off- campus sites as needed by the college. Mandatory overtime is required throughout the year, especially at peak times. Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.
