Georgia Fugees Academy Charter School (GFACS)
is seeking a College and Career Coach
who possess an unwavering commitment to the Fugees Family, Inc. mission and the willingness to go above & beyond to meet the needs of students, families, and staff.
The College and Career Coach should expect to guide students to develop goals and plans for life after high school. The College and Career Coach will have deliverables that are expected to be met over the course of a student’s time at GFACS. The College and Career Coach will be part of a team that is committed to learning and growing together through a process of collaboration and coaching.
Required Education, Qualifications, and Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of full-time classroom teaching experience, preferably in an urban setting.
- Minimum of 2 years of full-time career and college counseling experience preferred. Preferably with students from low-income backgrounds and/or with students from a range of different ethnic and faith backgrounds in a classroom setting
- Outstanding instructional skills, including the ability to motivate and challenge students
- Demonstrated ability to create and maintain a warm, strict, orderly classroom environment.
- A strong sense of personal accountability for student achievement and belief that all students can achieve.
- A belief that building deep, authentic relationships with students and families is a priority.
- Willingness to supervise students while working with online classes.
- Citizenship, residency or work VISA in the United States required.
- Previous experience working with English Learners is a plus.

Performance Responsibilities:
- Counsel with students on college and career plans and provide career awareness and/or exploration opportunities at the middle and high school levels.
- Assist in developing individual graduation plans for all students with a focus on college and career readiness. Track student progress toward college and career readiness and plan interventions for students who are not on track to meet standards/benchmarks.
- Meet routinely with students grades 6-12, but with grades grades 11-12 to help them achieve their individual college and career goals (e.g. align aspirations with talents, promote internships, and administer student self-assessments).
- Assist the operation manager to audit transcripts annually to meet state requirements for graduation
- Collaborate with Family Engagement staff in planning parent, student, and staff trainings that promote college and career readiness for all students.
- Assist with celebrations to recognize students who meet Future Ready Requirements.
- Act as a consistent positive public relations agent regarding CCR by attending workshops and events sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and local business and industry.
- Working knowledge of college and career readiness and preparation
- Experience guiding first-generation college students through post-graduation goals
- Up-to-date knowledge of scholarships
- Ability to build relationships with local businesses, post-secondary partners, apprenticeship councils, community-based organizations, students, teachers and parents to increase postsecondary student- success
- A strong sense of personal accountability for student achievement
- The ability to communicate effectively with students and families of different backgrounds
- The ability to work effectively with colleagues as a positive, professional member of a team
- Outstanding youth development skills, including the ability to motivate, encourage and challenge students to develop confidence, communication skills, and interview skills.
- Demonstrated ability to create and maintain a warm, strict, orderly program environment including enforcing behavior expectations with students
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of students and staff.
- Adhere to the professional Codes of Ethics adopted by Georgia.
- Administer health services to students as necessary including, but not limited to, the administration of medication; the operation, maintenance, or health care through the use of medical equipment; or the administration of clinical procedures.
- Maintain appropriate professional appearance.
- Act as a consistent positive public relations agent for school and district programs and activities.
- Maintain confidentiality of information regarding individual students and their families.
- Implement and adhere to all rules and regulations, policies, administrative guidelines, and directives as adopted by the GFACS Board of Trustees and Fugees Family, Inc.
- Maintain acceptable personal attendance without repeated unexcused absences, tardiness, absences without notification, or abuse of sick leave.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the board, Fugees Family, Inc., Principal, or other administrative staff.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong organizational and program management skills
- Committed, and a team player capable of working with minimum supervision
- BA required. MA preferred
- Citizenship, residency or work VISA in the United States required
Deliverables:
SAT/ACT: Provide SAT/ACT prep for students, analyze SAT/ACT results and assist students with registering for SAT/ACTs.
College 101:
- Take prospective students to visit two-three colleges over two years
- prepare students for etiquette of meeting college admissions teams
- provide workshops on College Essays
- understand the types of colleges and which works best for different students
- HOPE Scholarship details
- Adulting 101: Workshops for students and parents about what to expect from Freshman year or life after high school in careers
Postsecondary Options: Highlight different postsecondary options for students for career, Associates Degree, military, and four year options.
FAFSA: Assist families to complete the FAFSA in a timely manner.
Common Application: Be well versed in Common App and assist students with signing up and completing the Common App
Graduation Plans: All students grades 11-12 have a graduation plan and tangible plans they are working towards prior to graduation.
- Grades 6-10 may not have plans, but a portfolio showing their focus on personal goals and personal skills aligned to career and provide career exploration.
- Grades 11-12 develop individual graduation plans for students with a focus on College and Career Readiness. Track student progress toward college/career readiness and plan interventions for students who are not on track to meet standards/benchmarks.
Data: Track students beyond graduation up to 2 years to determine success and receive feedback to inform programming for current students.

Fugees Academy, part of the non-profit organization, Fugees Family, Inc., is a tuition-free, community-based, public charter school designed to meet the needs of new American students through English language acquisition and foundational skill study, culturally relevant curriculum and wraparound supports, restorative practices, arts programming, and soccer participation.
