Chelsea defender Renato Veiga, who joined from FC Basel in the summer, has reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Borussia Dortmund.
Dortmund are keen on securing Veiga on a loan deal that includes an option to buy at the end of the season.
However, Chelsea’s preference is for a permanent transfer, valuing the 21-year-old at more than £20 million and stating they will only allow him to leave on such terms if their valuation is met.
Dortmund have been actively pushing to negotiate this deal, with personal terms already agreed with Veiga, who is very keen on the move to Germany.
This interest from Dortmund comes amid their need for defensive reinforcements due to injuries and the desire to utilize Veiga’s versatility in their backline.
Despite Chelsea’s stance, the negotiations suggest there might be some flexibility, with Dortmund exploring a loan with an option to buy, although Chelsea have already turned down a loan approach from Wolves earlier in the transfer window.
The saga continues with both clubs in talks, trying to find a solution that suits their respective interests.
Chelsea’s manager, Enzo Maresca, has publicly stated his happiness with Veiga at the club, yet Veiga’s desire for regular first-team football proves challenging.
The Portuguese star also wishes to play in a central defensive role rather than left-back at Chelsea. These factors drive his interest in moving to Dortmund.
