Brighton & Hove Albion dismantled 10-man Sheffield United 5-0, in a match marred by Mason Holgate’s reckless red card.

The game took a twist in the 11th minute when Holgate’s challenge on Mitoma was deemed ‘reckless’ and dangerous, resulting in a straight red card after initially being shown a yellow.

The tackle was widely condemned as a potential career-ending assault, but thankfully Mitoma escaped serious injury.

With a man advantage, Brighton took control of the game. Facundo Buonanotte opened the scoring after a glancing touch from Adam Webster set him up for a close-range finish.

Danny Welbeck added a second, smashing home a rebound after Mitoma’s shot was saved.

In the second half, Brighton continued to dominate, with Jack Robinson scoring an own goal and Simon Adringra adding a brace to complete the 5-0 rout.

The win sees Brighton leapfrog West Ham and Newcastle into seventh place in the Premier League table.
