<p>Bishop Charles Ighele, the General Superintendent of the Holy Spirit Mission, has called for the ban of <a target="_blank" href="http://gistreel.com/tag/Valentine’s-Day"><strong>Valentine’s Day</strong></a> celebrations in Nigeria, citing concerns over moral decay and the promotion of illicit activities.</p>
<p>In a discussion with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ighele asserted that Valentine’s Day has deviated from its original purpose of promoting <a target="_blank" href="http://gistreel.com/tag/charity"><strong>humanitarian efforts</strong></a> and supporting the less fortunate.</p>
<p>He described the day as a “deception from the devil,” branding it a “universal day of immorality.”</p>
<p>The bishop argued that the observance of Valentine’s Day is linked to the Roman deity of love, Cupid, which he claims <strong>incites sexual desires</strong> and encourages immoral behavior among the youth. He urged authorities to implement a ban on the celebration, emphasizing its harmful influence on society.</p>
<p><em>“The day is associated with a romantic demon known as Cupid. This demon is one of the rulers of the darkness of this world, as referenced in Ephesians 6:11-12,”</em> he stated.</p>
<p><em>“Cupid is the Roman name for the Greek god of love, Eros. The English word ‘erotic’ originates from Eros.</em></p>
<p><em>“The dictionary defines ‘erotic’ as relating to or tending to arouse sexual desire or excitement.</em></p>
<p><em>“The celebration of this day inspires sexual feelings in people and promotes sexual entertainment, further institutionalizing immorality,”</em> he concluded.</p>
<p>The bishop remains firm in his belief that banning Valentine’s Day would help curb moral decline and protect the values of Nigerian society.</p>
