Former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has confidently tipped Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso to become the future manager of Real Madrid, calling the move “fate.”

With Carlo Ancelotti’s long-term future at the Santiago Bernabeu under scrutiny following Real Madrid’s Champions League exit and a seven-point deficit behind Barcelona in La Liga, speculation has intensified over who might eventually succeed the Italian.

Speaking to Stake.com, Aguero said: “I feel like [Xabi Alonso managing Real Madrid] is going to happen eventually. Not sure when.

“But for a player with his past in Madrid and the good work he put out at the Bundesliga, I think it’s fate.”

Alonso, a former Real Madrid midfielder, has earned widespread praise for transforming Leverkusen into Bundesliga title contenders, increasing the calls for his return to the Spanish capital in a managerial capacity.

Despite Ancelotti being under contract until 2026, Real’s underwhelming campaign has kept the door open for speculation.

Sources suggest Alonso could be lined up to take over either this summer or the next, depending on how Madrid’s season concludes.

Real Madrid return to La Liga action on Wednesday, April 23, against Getafe as they look to keep pressure on league leaders Barcelona.
