A Nigerian woman has shared her heartbreaking experience after discovering her husband’s affair shortly after she returned home from a three-week hospital stay following childbirth.
The revelation was made in a lengthy post on her X (formerly Twitter) page, where she recounted how what seemed like a routine visit from a guest led to the discovery of infidelity and betrayal.
The woman, identified as @Ryann_Agada, wrote:
“It happened after I had my third baby. I had stayed in the hospital for weeks because there were complications. When we got home, people started coming to visit and greet the baby.”
She explained that one of the visitors, a friend of her cousin, stopped by with gifts and a beautiful dress.
“My cousin’s friend also came by. She said my cousin told her I had just given birth and had been very ill, so since she was in town, she decided to visit. She brought gifts for the baby and a lovely boubou dress for me too.”
At the time, her husband was out running errands. When he returned and the guest said she was leaving, he casually stepped out again.
“My husband was out running errands when she arrived. When he returned, she said she was leaving. My husband casually walked out.”
That was when her mother, who was heading out, accidentally overheard a private conversation between her husband and the guest.
“My mom was going out to get something when she overheard them talking. That was when the truth came out.”
The woman explained that her husband had met the lady during their wedding period and maintained an affair with her for nearly a year before ending things.
“My husband had an affair with her. They met during our wedding period and kept seeing each other for almost a year before he broke things off. According to him, he ‘settled’ her and asked her to move to Abuja, and even gave her money to start a business.”
But the story took a darker turn. The woman explained that the guest had since gotten married and had been trying to conceive without success.
A medical examination revealed her uterus had been damaged.
“This happened about six years ago. The problem now is that she got married and has been trying to conceive. She eventually went for a scan and found out that her uterus had been damaged.”
According to her, the woman blamed an abortion she had for the damage.
“She claimed it happened during an abortion she had when she got pregnant for my husband.”
She further revealed that the woman had tried reaching out to her husband, but got no real response.
“She called him to tell him, but according to her, he didn’t respond in a reasonable way. So she traveled to Lagos and came to my house to confront him.”
Expressing her deep disappointment, the woman wrote:
“This is the same man I used to brag about to my friends, that he would never look at another woman because of how shy he was. I was the one who even made the first move. I trusted him with my life.”
She added that the most painful part of the incident was how her mother found out before she did.
“The most painful part? It was my mother who found out first. We’re still together, but I don’t know how long I can carry on.”
Despite everything, her mother advised her not to leave the marriage.
“My mom wants me to stay for the kids. She says it’s in men’s nature to cheat. My husband insists it happened only once and promises it will never happen again.”
Still, the woman expressed deep fear and confusion:
“But the fact that it happened at all, and I didn’t even suspect anything, is what scares me the most.”
She ended the post with a vulnerable reflection:
“I’m 34. The idea of divorcing after almost 8 years of marriage feels like failure. I’m very confused. I don’t know what to do.
