Job Position Description:
We are seeking a diligent and safety-conscious individual to join our team as a Project Safety Assistant. In this role, you will work closely with the Project Safety Manager, PX, PM, and Superintendents to ensure strict adherence to Company Environmental Health & Safety policies and procedures on a construction project. Your primary responsibilities will include identifying, eliminating, and controlling hazardous conditions to mitigate the risk of injury and property damage, employing job-specific safety standards, best management practices, and the Building L.I.F.E. program.
Reports to: Project Safety Manager or Project EHS Manager
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Educate project staff and Turner Trades personnel on EH&S programs, policies, and procedures, providing training on safe work practices.
- Review subcontractor safety programs for compliance with Turner’s policies, regulations, and owner contractual requirements.
- Promote safe work practices in accordance with all Federal, State, and Local regulations, and Owner/contractual requirements.
- Administer drug screening programs as required by Turner and Owner’s requirements.
- Coordinate preconstruction meetings with Project Safety Manager and Superintendent.
- Ensure subcontractors conduct proper training as per WorkSafeBC standards.
- Conduct worker orientation programs for new employees and maintain records of participation.
- Gather pre-task plans and Job Hazard Analyses for all project contractors.
- Conduct safety meetings and maintain records of subcontractor toolbox safety meetings.
- Provide safety reports to Project Safety Manager as necessary.
- Conduct safety audits and recommend corrective actions per Company policy.
Salary:
The estimated total pay range for a Project Safety Assistant at Turner Construction is $65K–$94K per year, inclusive of base salary and additional pay. The average base salary for this position is $75K per year. (Source: Glassdoor)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, engineering, or equivalent preferred, with at least one year of safety experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in building construction.
- Ability to identify potential exposures and recommend corrective actions.
- Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite programs.
- Demonstrated management, leadership, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as climbing stairs and ladders, negotiating work areas under construction, and lifting heavy weights occasionally.
- Visual abilities including close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
- Regular work on-site at construction sites, exposed to moving mechanical parts, high places, airborne particles, weather conditions, and noise levels ranging from moderate to loud.
May perform other duties as necessary or assigned.
