About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary Full-time Coordinator, Volunteer Resources to join our dynamic Donor Relations & Collections West team.

The Donor Relations & Collections team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by collecting donor blood in a safe manner to enable safe products which save lives every day. In this role, you will perform phlebotomy in the collection process in accordance with health and safety standards. You will work face-to-face with our donors, team members and volunteers providing them with safe and quality service during each stage of the collection process.

Formula for success

• Utilizing your knowledge and experience in volunteer management and recruitment, you will perform volunteer needs assessments for designated areas, prepare the volunteer placement schedules and arrange and conduct recruitment activities; you will also match volunteer recruits to assignments; arrange or conduct volunteer orientation and training; employ and maintain volunteer records in required databases and produce data reports as required
• Drawing on your excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you will establish partnerships within the community to promote the blood program, as well as foster positive and regular communication with customers and partners
• Using your planning and organizational skills, you will coordinate appreciation and recognition activities
• You conduct all activities according to Volunteer Program policies, practices and standards in compliance with the volunteer-involvement risk management framework

Desired education and skills

• Post-secondary education in Volunteer Management or another related field
• Bilingual English/French considered a strong asset
• Demonstrated success in volunteer recruitment
• Experience working with volunteers and volunteer groups
• Experience in community development and networking
• Minimum 3 to 5 years’ experience in volunteer program management or a combination of education and on the job experience

The Plumbing Code Board of Appeal consists of three members appointed by the Mayor. One member shall be a plumbing contractor whose experience and training qualify them to decide matters concerning the safety of installations and devices regulated by PCC Title 25; one member shall be a person engaged in the design of plumbing installations whose experience and training qualify them to decide matters concerning the safety of installations and devices and one member who shall be a member of the public at large.

The Plumbing Code Board of Appeal hears appeals of plumbing code issues which are appealed beyond the Administrative Appeals Board. The Appeals Board may affirm, annul or modify the action of BDS on the condition that substantially equivalent safety is provided that generally conforms to national standards concerning fire prevention, fire safety measures, and building construction requirements for safety.

This board meets as appeals are received.

To Qualify

To be eligible to serve on the Plumbing Code Board of Appeal, members must live, play, worship, work or do business in the City of Portland.

Members and alternates must be qualified by experience and training to evaluate and ensure the safety of installations and devices regulated by Portland City Code , Plumbing Regulations, and subject to the requirements of OPSC. Alternates may be called on to serve in the absence of a regular member.

Time Commitment

• The Plumbing Code Board of Appeal meets on an as-needed basis not more than once a month.
• Meetings are traditionally held in City offices at 1900 SW 4th Avenue. However, due to recent public health restrictions, meetings are currently held online via Zoom. All meetings of the Board are open to the public.
• Members serve a term of three years with the possibility of renewing for a second three-year term.
• Members are expected to attend and participate in meetings consistently. Members are expected to prepare for meetings on their own time and arrive ready to discuss meeting materials and agenda items. Meeting materials for review are typically sent one week in advance.
• We provide interpreters who will translate the conversation in your language during the meeting. Please ask for an interpreter at least a week in advance of the meeting so we have enough time to make arrangements.
• You may need to read and write in your language. Verbal and written translations are performed by outside organizations. The dialects may be different than your home region and may be different on each document.
• We try to translate the written materials you ask for, but we may not be able to provide translation on all meeting documents.
• Members are expected to prepare for meetings on their own time. Meeting materials for review may be sent with minimal time to review, possibly as few as forty-eight hours (or two days) in advance.

Let us know if there are barriers to your participation. When we return to in-person meetings, dinner will be provided if the meeting is expected to exceed 4 hours. Also, parking validation will be available if you park in the City’s parking garage.

People who join this committee will become what we call “Public Officials,” which means that while you serve you must behave fair and ethically. We will provide training on this once you are appointed. Part of following Public Officials Ethics laws means you must tell the group when you or a relative may financially benefit (or avoid fees) by your recommendations. This is called a “Conflict of Interest.” If you tell us about potential Conflicts of Interest that does not mean you cannot serve, in fact, many committees have potential members with Conflicts of Interest.
