Job Summary

The Assistant Track Supervisor is responsible for leading the operations of an assigned territory that involves track inspection and repairs. The role oversees replacing rails, ties, switches, and ballasts. In addition, the position provides daily support to the Track Supervisor.

Main Responsibilities

· Lead engineering operations as outlined in CN’s operating plan

· Supervise and lead activities of track gangs, track employees, and hi-rail operations

· Handle engineering operations which include compliance with safe work procedures, Transport Canada guidelines, and CN standards, policies, and regulations

· Lead people with clear direction and goals while providing coaching and guidance to employees through regular performance monitoring

· Apply collective agreement and company policies by conducting investigations, recommending corrective actions, and responding to grievances

· Oversee budgets and workforce productivity within CN policies and the Five Guiding Principles

· Ensure clear communication of track condition and daily production information to senior management in order to adjust

· Ensure the safety of the track through regulatory inspections and input findings into the Track Inspection System (TIS) to monitor track condition

· Follow up on reported track issues to ensure they maintain compliance with standards

· Participate in activities related to derailments and disruptions in service, while working with Transportation and Mechanical to establish cause and future prevention

· Perform safety audits for the unionized workforce and conduct safety engagements

Working Conditions

The role will be partially performed in an office environment and outdoors in various types of weather and environmental conditions with irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The role requires regular travel (up to 50%) across their assigned territory at times without advance notice. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and stress. Tenure track position in molecular biology

The Department of Biology at University of Ottawa invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. For this position, the successful candidate will demonstrate potential to build internationally-recognized and externally funded research program that fully engages trainees at all levels, building collaborations within and beyond our collegial, research-intensive department. Candidates must be able to teach in both French and English at the time of hiring at undergraduate and graduate levels. Exceptional candidates at Associate Professor level may also be considered. The starting date is July 1, 2024.

We are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in either new cellular models (organoids, 3D cultures) and/or classic and/or emerging invertebrate models. A research focus on the molecular mechanisms of aging, regeneration, and cell programming will be seen as an asset. However, any novel and/or developing research topic in the area of molecular and developmental genetics will also be considered in full.

The successful candidate will join a research-intensive, growing department of 40 researchers working in a wide range of fields, including cell and molecular biology, physiology, ecotoxicology, neuroscience, developmental biology, ecology and conservation, evolutionary biology, and bioinformatics. The Department maintains close collaborations with researchers at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, University of Ottawa Brain and Mind Institute, Ottawa Heart Institute, Carleton University, federal science departments and agencies, and the Canadian Museum of Nature. The Faculty of Science provides access to core facilities for molecular biology, genomics, chemistry, microscopy and aquatic animal care to all of its members.

Title of the position: Assistant or Associate Professor

Duties: The responsibilities include: 1) maintaining a robust, externally funded research program; 2) supervision of graduate and undergraduate student thesis projects in the department; 3) teaching undergraduate and graduate courses that contribute to the bilingual (English-French) Biology or Biomedical Sciences curriculum; and 4) performing an active role within the department by contributing to administrative and academic activities of the Department, and Faculty of Science.

Rank and salary: Regular tenure-track academic appointment in the Faculty of Science, with a salary consistent with the collective agreement of the Association of Professors of the University of Ottawa. The salary scale for assistant professors starts at $89,622 (based on the scale in effect on May 1, 2023).

Required qualifications: PhD in Biology or a related discipline. Postdoctoral experience is expected. A demonstrated track record of research excellence must be clearly presented, along with commitment and strategies for teaching and graduate training. Job Summary

The Assistant Track Supervisor is responsible for leading the operations of an assigned territory that involves track inspection and repairs. The role oversees replacing rails, ties, switches, and ballasts. In addition, the position provides daily support to the Track Supervisor.

Main Responsibilities

· Lead engineering operations as outlined in CN’s operating plan

· Supervise and lead activities of track gangs, track employees, and hi-rail operations

· Handle engineering operations which include compliance with safe work procedures, Transport Canada guidelines, and CN standards, policies, and regulations

· Lead people with clear direction and goals while providing coaching and guidance to employees through regular performance monitoring

· Apply collective agreement and company policies by conducting investigations, recommending corrective actions, and responding to grievances

· Oversee budgets and workforce productivity within CN policies and the Five Guiding Principles

· Ensure clear communication of track condition and daily production information to senior management in order to adjust

· Ensure the safety of the track through regulatory inspections and input findings into the Track Inspection System (TIS) to monitor track condition

· Follow up on reported track issues to ensure they maintain compliance with standards

· Participate in activities related to derailments and disruptions in service, while working with Transportation and Mechanical to establish cause and future prevention

· Perform safety audits for the unionized workforce and conduct safety engagements

· Plan, schedule and perform track repairs and maintenance

· Respond to emergencies

Working Conditions

The role will be partially performed in an office environment and outdoors in various types of weather and environmental conditions with irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The role requires regular travel (up to 50%) across their assigned territory at times without advance notice. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and stress. The position requires responding to unexpected and emergency situations, and being able to lift up to 70 lbs.

The at the University of Alberta invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate professor, with a specialization in Theatre Lighting Design. This position is to commence on July 1, 2024.

Applications are invited from designers with experience in lighting design and at least one other area of design, preferably projected media. The successful applicant will be prepared to teach in at least one other area of design and supervise across all design areas with up to 10 student designers annually, and should be qualified to advise students as they work on all elements of design (costume, props, light, and projected media).

Position Summary

Applicants will have a growing record of established practice in their field, be able to establish/continue a successful program of creative activity/research and integrate this into teaching and learning opportunities for their students. Applicants must have the capacity to effectively teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and to engage in the collective life of the University through service and administrative roles. Faculty designers may design 1 – 2 elements annually for the Department’s main stage theatre season. Excellent funding opportunities are available for investigation/ experimentation/ research in the successful candidate’s area of expertise.

Courses in the Department of Drama are taught in a conservatory/atelier manner. Department productions range from at least 11 annual “shoestring” events (4 are ‘designed’) to a 4-play, fully mounted showcase season.

Designers interact with students and faculty from several other department programs and the successful candidate will work closely with 2 other design faculty members and 8 production staff members. Demonstrated capacity and commitment to working well within team situations are essential.

Applicants should show a willingness to incorporate or reflect Indigenous content, perspectives, or ways of teaching and learning into their curriculum where appropriate. Awareness and willingness to engage in other forms of inclusion (e.g. in training or inclusive pedagogy) are also desired.

Duties

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach four courses per academic year (distributed across the year) including existing graduate and undergraduate courses, and will have the opportunity to develop and teach additional courses in their areas of expertise;
  • Supervise graduate students and serve on graduate committees in the Design area, and elsewhere in the university;
  • Maintain robust creative activity/ research within their area(s);
  • Collaborate with sectors outside of academia, including community groups, non-profits, and industry; and
  • Engage in active and effective service to the Department of Drama, the Faculty of Arts, the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, the University of Alberta, and external communities as appropriate to their career stage.

Qualifications

  • An MFA in Theatre Design, or its equivalent in professional training and/or experience.

The Department of Drama

This colleague will join a department that includes designers, directors, playwrights, dramaturges, theorists, historians, performers, stage managers, technicians, and makers of new work. A willingness to collaborate across disciplinary boundaries is encouraged, both within our department and beyond.

The Department of Drama offers liberal arts programs leading to BA, BA Honors, and MA degrees and conservatory programs leading to BFA degrees in Acting, Design, Technical Production, Stage Management, and MFA degrees in Directing, Design, and Theatre Practice. All BFA and MFA programs prepare students for entry into the theatre profession. Graduates from all programs have identifiable records of achievement on a national scale. In addition, the department is home to Ph.D. in Performance Studies. This program connects with similar graduate programs in other areas of the Fine and Performing Arts that support interdisciplinary research-creation theses.

The Fine Arts Building, with four performance spaces for Drama, was designed specifically for the teaching of theatre arts, music, design, and visual arts. The Department of Philosophy is a unit within the Faculty of Arts of the University of Alberta.
