The Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI) is a federal initiative to clean-up low-level radioactive waste materials situated in the Municipality of Port Hope (MPH) and the Municipality of Clarington. The project involves remediating contaminated sites to established clean-up criteria (CC) and consolidating the waste materials in a new engineered mound (one in each community). The project is sponsored by Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL), and the project delivery is led by Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL).

The Environmental Specialist Permitting/Integration works under the direction of the Environmental Compliance Lead to manage the Small Scale Sites and Major and Industrial Sites program and permitting requirements for the Port Hope and Port Granby Projects through Phases 2 and 3 of the project. The Environmental Specialist will provide support to the Environmental Compliance Lead and the Manager, HWP Environmental Management to support the successful implementation of the project in order to meet CNL’s reporting requirements under the Waste Nuclear Substance License (WNSL) for the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC). The Environmental Specialist Permitting/Integration also provides subject matter expertise related to provincial and federal legislation to support the project teams to ensure that CNL’s commitments in the Environmental Assessments (EAs) are tracked and implemented, or changes appropriately captured and reported.

What will you be doing !

Environmental Permitting and Project Integration

• · Provide daily internal communications with the Environmental Compliance Lead and as necessary the Manager, HWP Environmental Management to advise of any issues that require management, and to provide a briefing of ongoing work.
• · Lead the preparation of documentation to support the procurement of federal and provincial permits to support project work (Small Scale Sites and Major and Industrial Sites projects).
• · Work closely with the Environmental Compliance Officers for the project sites to ensure seamless transition of information and full support of issue management in a timely manner.
• · Review Contractor submissions to ensure that they align with CNL procedures and regulatory requirements.
• · Ensure that there is alignment between Project Teams and Contractors and HWP Environmental Management and Programs & Compliance Staff prior to activities occurring.
• · Act as subject matter expert for environmental activities at events with external stakeholders (e.g. meetings, presentations, lectures, trade fairs).
• · Prepare statements of work to obtain the services of contractors/consultants to deliver aspects of the Environmental Assessment Follow-Up Program.
• · Provide mentorship to junior staff.
• · Act as a back-up (delegate) to the Environmental Compliance Lead, as required.
• · Participate in field activities associated with permitting requirements or project support work, as required.
• · Research past decisions and reporting for the project to respond to inquiries and prepare information in a number of various reporting formats, as required by each project team.

Reporting and Environmental Procedures

• · Ensure detailed knowledge of the Waste Nuclear Substance License, Legal Agreement, and Environmental Assessment commitments and follow-up requirements for the project.
• · Manage and interpret environmental monitoring data for reporting purposes.
• · Update and revise environmental procedures or plans as required to support and remain compliant with CNL’s environmental monitoring requirements.
• · Identifies and recommends improvements to any CNL-wide procedures that affects own work area.
• · Collaborates with others in the development of changes to work procedures using innovative approaches.
• · Good knowledge of CNL’s organizational structure, management systems, licensed facilities operations, planning/projects, and conducting reviews/assessments is required.
• · Strong organizational and time management skills in order to multi-task and remain on schedule.

Implementation of Quality Assurance and Excellence

• · Execute complex and specialized technical work under the general guidance of the Environmental Compliance Lead, such as:

• Understands Kal Tire’s business from a Finance perspective.
• Collaborates with all levels of Management to understand what information is needed for business decision-making.
• Analyzes data and summarizes findings in a manner that clearly identifies key business performance issues, facilitating efficient and effective management decision making.

Team Leadership

• Participates in the planning and execution of projects that impact Accounting.
• Provides mentorship to team members.
• Assists others in the performance of their duties as required.
• May assist in the recruiting, hiring and training of corporate accounting team members,

Work Experience

• 5+ years of experience in financial accounting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts.
• Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
• Advanced working knowledge of Excel.
• Experience with full-feature accounting systems.
• Experience with developing Power BI dashboards would be a plus.

Education

• CPA designation is required.
