The Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position at the assistant or associate professor level in the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders (CSD). The Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders, one of three departments in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine, offers a course-based Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (MScSLP), a two-year program designed to develop leaders in speech-language pathology through excellence in research, education and citizenship. The program is designed to provide students with the academic and clinical skills required to be eligible for certification through Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC) and registration or licensure by provincial regulatory bodies. A thesis-based option within the MScSLP is also offered, as well as a combined MSc/PhD program that allows a select group of highly motivated students to complete the MScSLP and the PhD in rehabilitation sciences within a single integrated program of study. Faculty members of the CSD department are actively involved in the MSc and PhD thesis-based degree programs in Rehabilitation Science offered through the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine.

The Department of CSD is among the largest speech-language pathology education programs in Canada. The Department currently consists of 11 tenure track and 7 academic teaching faculty members, supported by staff at the Department and Faculty level. Starting in Fall 2024, the MScSLP program will be offered in a distributed education model across 2 campuses in Alberta – Edmonton and Camrose. Approximately 90 students will be admitted in Fall 2024 across both campuses, with 20 of those seats reserved for students from Saskatchewan.

Faculty members have diverse research programs in areas including developmental language disorders and phonological development in children, literacy, multilingual language development, neurogenic communication disorders, speech science, hearing science and head and neck cancer rehabilitation. The department has community connections with several health care centres in Edmonton, including the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital. Faculty members have close connections (e.g., cross appointments and partnerships) with research and clinical institutes such as the , the and the .

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders or a related field, be an independent investigator or have the potential to develop a successful research program as an independent investigator in any of the Faculty and department’s areas of research excellence. Candidates with expertise in fluency, complex communication needs/autism spectrum disorders or dysphagia are encouraged to apply but all qualified candidates will be considered. This is an appointment to a tenure track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to begin May 1, 2024. Educators with research and teaching expertise in the area of K-12 Mathematics Education are invited to apply and join a Faculty where they would have opportunities to engage in thoughtful and critical scholarship alongside undergraduate and graduate students and internationally renowned scholars.

Applicants must have completed a doctorate in Mathematics Education. Candidates must have relevant K-12 teaching experience, and post-secondary level teaching experience, including graduate student teaching and supervision. Applicants must demonstrate scholarly excellence in terms of productivity, collaboration, and creative innovation in understanding African immigrant families’ support for their children’s mathematics learning in Canada.

Responsibilities will include:

• teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Mathematics Education and/or other areas of education across the Faculty;
• engagement in a research program relevant to African immigrant families supporting their children’s Mathematics Education; Immigrant Parents, Mathematics and Social Justice, Mathematics and Race, Culturally Responsive Education, Anti-Racist Education, Anti-Oppression Education, and/or Anti-Colonial, Decolonial, Postcolonial Education.

Additional responsibilities include:

• contribution to service within the Faculty, University, and professional communities; and advising and supervising graduate students.
