Job description: JOB SUMMARY

Facilities Decommissioning & Environmental Remediation (FD&ER) is responsible for the execution of all activities associated with the Decommissioning of facilities that have been transferred to FD at CRL, Gentilly-1 and Douglas Point.

The Job Supervisor is accountable to the Project Manager of Facilities Decommissioning Program Execution, for ensuring that facilities, resources and support groups are operated and maintained in a manner that ensures compliance to CNL’s procedures and regulatory guidelines.

The Job Supervisor will reinforce management’s expectations for safe work practices, consequences for not following safe work practices and address performance and time management issues at the job sites.

The Job Supervisor shall also ensure all paperwork, records and procedures are completed and followed, and that all safety rules are adhered to. Provide planning, oversight and support for routine and non-routine work activities to ensure the structures and operating systems compromising the Facility are maintained. Work could involve housekeeping, construction, partial dismantling, stripping walls/ceilings, stripping process equipment and demolition work up to and including entire structures.

DUTIES

The Job Supervisor is faced with a wide range of issues daily, as a result of the diverse group of facilities, resources and composition of the responsibilities of the CRL Decommissioning Facilities branch.

The Supervisor’s duties include:

  • Review and Comment (R&C) on documents related to the CRL Decommissioning Facilities program;
  • As Officer-in-Charge (OIC) or Emergency Steward of various facilities, the Supervisor must lead facility response to emergencies, both internal and external;
  • Respond to calls during non-business hours and resolve emergency calls;
  • Work with Trades, Projects, Radiation Protection and other support groups to resolve problems and issues related to the decommissioning program;
  • Maintain, update and ensure CRL Decommissioning Facilities is following the preventative maintenance program and completing all maintenance, Storage-with-Surveillance (SwS) and compliance activities on-time;
  • Supervise and delegate work to teams (up to 20 Staff);
  • Lead demolition activities in the field in multiple areas of any given job site;
  • Supervise operation of heavy demolition equipment;
  • Supervise site reduction and packaging of radioactive/and non-radioactive demolition waste in accordance with Waste Management Plans (WMP’s);
  • Own and manage job sites, including perimeter barriers, signage, staff work practices and traffic and pedestrian control;
  • Lead Plan of Day (POD) meetings with teams, ensure pre-jobs/post-jobs are completed;
  • Support the development and implementation of training;
  • Leading and or assisting in conducting interviews, goal setting performance management, career development, disciplinary and promotion actions for assigned staff;
  • Authorizing timesheets, leave approvals, vacation and overtime;
  • Provide coaching as necessary;
  • Ensure adherence to field work plans and permits including hold points and signoffs prior to advancement.
  • Work with technical staff to resolve problems/issues to maintain a safe path forward approach to work execution.

This role is based out of CNL’s Chalk River, which will be the designated workplace. CNL may require travel from time to time, as necessary.
