Sport and Day Camp Supervisor (Full Time)

What qualifications are we looking for?

At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following;
-A Bachelor of Education, Physical Education or a related degree or diploma is an asset
-A minimum of two years’ experience working with youth
-Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) or Challenges Unlimited (CUI) Level 1
-Experience working with the Canadian Sport for Life Model including Physical Literacy
-Experience with day camps, supervising staff, and program development
-Minimum two years’ experience in coaching and sport program delivery, and one-year supervisory experience
-Excellent customer service attitude
-Availability in the evenings and weekends to meet community and branch needs
-National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Fundamentals is an asset (basketball, soccer or badminton)
-Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certifications
-Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
-Three professional references

What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

Duties and responsibilities include:
-Lead the team of staff working for Sports and Day Camps including hiring, training, performance management and active coaching and mentoring of staff and volunteers, including providing feedback on a regular basis
-Ensure high quality of programs and execution of the program design by personal, direct delivery of programs (Basketball, Badminton, Soccer)
-Build relationships with parents, participants, volunteers and staff
-Have a high degree of organizational and administrative skill to ensure Association procedures are adhered to as set by YMCA Calgary
-Volunteer recruitment (volunteer fairs, interview, train and performance manage)
-Adhere to policies & procedures that support high standards for Health & Safety and Child Safety & Protection.
-Provide leadership for summer and seasonal Day Camps including Summer, Winter Break, Teacher’s Convention and Spring Break.
-Play an active role by attending regularly scheduled meetings and in-services.
-Develop, control and evaluate the Sport & Day Camp budgets for your branch, related statistics, and purchase equipment as required
-Ensure all administration systems are in place and are adhered to as set by YMCA Calgary.
-Collaborate with the Bookings Team to plan, organize and facilitate group bookings including school groups and -birthday parties.
-Take initiative to support program cycles for Sport & Day Camps including registration, program cancellations and wait list management.
-Provide branch support assuming weekly Duty Manager Shifts and engage Healthy Safety Training and Duty Manager In-Services. Assist with branch duties (including scheduled duty manager shifts, day camps, registration -days, etc)
-Assist with the annual YMCA campaign by developing relationships with program participants to raise their campaign awareness
-Market and promote programs
-Be responsible for ensuring your staff and volunteers receive department and Association specific training
-Effectively communicate in a variety of settings; excellent oral and written communication skills, including intermediate use of technology
-Ensure excellent quality member service by identifying the needs and wants of participants as priority and respond to their concerns in an effective and timely manner
-Facilitate leadership programs for staff and volunteers
-Attend branch and department special events (Healthy Kids Day, Basketball tournaments, All Sport One Day, in-services, Stampede Breakfast, volunteer appreciation etc)

About the opportunity: Everton in the Community is seeking to appoint a Primary School Sport Coach to deliver and monitor high quality coaching programmes to schools throughout Merseyside, to increase participation among participants of all abilities.

As a Primary School Sports Coach you will deliver high quality PE and PPA sports sessions to primary school children.

This role sits under our Everton in the Community’s Learns pillar, which aims to remove barriers and create more pathways to education for people of all ages, ensuring that each and every individual has the chance to learn and grow.

Learns will support children at every step of their educational journey, empowering young people to choose their own career paths and equip adults with the necessary skills to thrive in future workplaces, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to learn and grow.

In parts of Liverpool, many children are well below the city average in achieving their Early Learning Goals; young people across Liverpool City Region are being left behind and spend their lives struggling to catch-up. Areas of Merseyside are more than 10% below the national average at GCSE level, and among adults, almost a third of the working-age population in parts of North Liverpool have no formal qualifications, impacting those seeking work and fulfilment.

Other key responsibilities will include:

Developing and delivering a Premier League schools coaching programme

Developing and delivering numeracy and literacy resources to be used in Premier League Primary Stars programme in line with PL targets

Delivering PSHE to children during lesson time, with assemblies and collapsed curriculum days to reinforce messages delivered. Linking with external agencies where possible.

Providing regular project reports and monitoring information to the Senior Management Team and the Premier League.

Safeguarding

To understand the Club’s Safeguarding policy, procedures, and best practice guidelines.

To use this understanding to ensure safe working practices, appropriate reporting of concerns and contribute positively to an Anti-bullying environment.

Who we are looking for: We are looking for an individual who is able to engage students through coaching sessions, with ability to develop numeracy and literacy resources to be used in Premier League Primary Stars programmes. Essentially, you must have experience of working with young people ideally in a School, sport or community setting.

This is an exciting role for someone who is passionate about supporting young people within education.

Essential qualifications include:

NGB level 2 in at least one sport

Valid Emergency First Aid Award

Valid ‘Safeguarding Children workshop certificate

Qualifications in other sports
