The Director, Development and Community Relations partners directly with the Chief Executive Officer as a champion of the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) mission of “Keeping Families Close” by leading our organization’s development and community outreach efforts, creating, and fostering relationships that drive impactful partnerships and sustainable change. The Director is responsible for devising, implementing, and executing inspirational strategic and operational plans to grow philanthropic support and deepen our community ties across Southwestern Ontario. To ensure fair and equitable pay at RMHC-SWO, placement on the salary range will be based on your years of experience, skills and qualifications relevant to the Director, Development and Community Relations. Hiring salary range: $105,000 to $115,000. RMHC-SWO offers a 4-day workweek schedule for the employees.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership:

  • Provide strategic, innovative leadership to the Board, staff and volunteers supporting the goals and values of Ronald McDonald House of Southwestern Ontario.
  • Maintain close ties with RMHC Chapters, RMHC Canada and RMHC Global.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising and community engagement strategy aligned with the organization’s mission, values, and strategic goals.
  • Engage and collaborate with the leadership team, Board of Directors, volunteer team and key stakeholders to drive forward philanthropic initiatives.

Philanthropy and Fundraising Strategy:

  • Lead the development of a multi-year fundraising plan with goals and objectives, KPIs (key performance indicators), target donors, and actions.
  • Identify, cultivate, and maintain relationships with major donors, foundations, and corporations.
  • Continue to build and foster RMHC-SWO relationships with our founding and forever partner, McDonalds, across the region.
  • Produce an annual report detailing funds raised, donor statistics, success stories, challenges, and recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain a real-time philanthropic dashboard for fundraising metrics, donor engagement, and transparency across RMHC-SWO.
  • Steward key donor relationships across Southwestern Ontario to grow and evolve donor relationships.

Community Relations and Partnerships:

  • Build and nurture strategic community partnerships with nonprofits, civic groups, educational institutions, and other organizations throughout Southwestern Ontario.
  • Develop a roadmap for stakeholder engagement, collaborations, and RMHC mission-supporting initiatives.
  • Evaluation of current and past partnerships, their impact, areas of improvement, and future strategy.
  • Oversee internal and external communications to ensure timely, consistent, and compelling messaging around RMHC’s philanthropic activities and community partnerships across the region.

Data Management and Reporting:

  • Produce a detailed budget, income projections, expected expenses, and ROI (return on investment) analysis for department initiatives.
  • Oversee the development of a system for tracking grant applications, awards, timelines, compliance, and report dues.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on fundraising and engagement metrics to inform strategy adjustments and demonstrate impact utilizing various feedback mechanisms.
  • Work with Raisers Edge to maximize the system’s capabilities, including customization to enhance the system’s capabilities and improve data capture and donor analysis capabilities.

Team and Stakeholder Development:

  • Create a blueprint for team training, development, and continuous education in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team dedicated to philanthropic efforts and community engagement.
  • Establish a major donor strategy for relationship cultivation.
  • Ensure all communication templates provide consistent and effective messaging to donors, partners, and community stakeholders.

Events and Recognition:

  • Oversee the planning and implementation of an efficient, effective, and customer-evaluated stewardship program.
  • Oversee the creation of donor recognition criteria, acknowledgment types, and frequency.
  • Ensure all annual RMHC signature events, community events and programs, and donor appreciation activities align with the chapter’s strategic direction, operational plans, and financial goals.
  • Foster long-term relationships with donors, ensuring their interests align with the organization’s mission and projects.

Risk Management and Crisis Communication:

  • Establish protocols to address PR or donor-related issues proactively, safeguarding the organization’s reputation.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for RMHC-SWO in the absence of the CEO or Board Chair/ President.
  • Ensure RMHC-SWO meets or exceeds all legal, ethical, professional, and internally established requirements, including Canada Revenue Agency, Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), and Imagine Canada Ethical Fundraising and Financial Accountability Code.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:

  • Ensure the integration of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) principles in philanthropic and community efforts.
  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in all philanthropic and community endeavours.

QUALIFICATIONS/ KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  • 7+ years of corporate and community fundraising experience with an emphasis on major gifts.
  • Demonstrated fundraising, marketing, and communications experience.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree; advanced degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Canadian Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) designation preferred.
  • Member of the AFP, AHP or CAGP with a commitment to established professional standards.
  • Demonstrated experience with a successful Capital Campaign.
  • Experience in budget planning and financial management.
  • Knowledge of the Charity Accounting Act.
  • Proficiency with Raisers Edge and the Blackbaud ecosystem is an asset.
  • Understanding of Canada Revenue Agency tax receipting rules and guidelines.
  • Commitment to the highest ethical standards and dedication to the organization’s mission and values.
  • Valid driver’s license with a healthy driving record and consistent access to a motor vehicle with

appropriate auto insurance. * Available to work variable hours over evenings and weekends, as necessary, throughout the year.

  • Attending all RMHC sponsored events and other activities conducted for the benefit of RMHC.

Budget Accountability: $3, 500,000.00 + Annual Revenue Generation

Travel: The ability to travel regionally, nationally, and globally is required.
