In this role, you will provide support to assigned assets in the UCTAD Department. This role will receive day-to-day work direction from the area maintenance planners, with reporting responsibility to the Reliability Crew Leader. You will also:

Assume reliability ownership for all assigned asset areas

Provide technical support to facilities personnel

Perform daily/weekly rounds and address equipment deficiencies identified

Actively seek component reliability improvements

Work closely with Operations and Engineering teams to implement process and equipment improvements

At Canadian Natural, our Horizon site based Reliability Engineering team plays a key role in delivering optimal availability, reliability, and performance of our Upgrader, which currently produces 415,000 bbl of synthetic crude oil per day. Our Reliability Engineers identify and manage asset reliability risks that could adversely affect plant or business operations. With expertise in loss elimination, risk management, and life cycle asset management and consideration for health, safety and environment, the team is responsible for making sound recommendations to Upgrading and Utilities management team on delivering best-possible asset performance while applying Lean Six Sigma (LSS) and Four Disciplines of Execution (4DX).

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support Canadian Natural’s statement of safe, steady and reliable operations with high utilization. Follow safe work procedures and ensure all personnel comply
  • Maintain and manage plant asset management, which are systematic and coordinated activities through which the Canadian Natural manages its assets, their associated performance, risks and expenditures over their life cycles
  • Identify and manage asset reliability risks with a primary focus on reduce/eliminate: production losses, maintenance-repair costs, operational risks
  • Provide plant support during outage/shutdown/daily operation and maintain and maximize plant availability, reliability and safety
  • Carry out continuous improvement initiatives to resolve systematic issues of Static and rotating equipment. As well, develop and maintain a list of forward looking bad actors of Static and rotating equipment and drive for resolution
  • Develop PM (preventative maintenance) plans, maintenance strategies and spares requirement to ensure reliable operation of the plant
  • Leading Failure root cause analysis, identifying critical spare parts and completing life cycle asset management calculations
  • Actively participate in development and delivery of Facts & Data, Yellow Belt, and Green Belt workshops
  • Support teams in the development of control plans and follow up to ensure that process owners are completing the required actions; update the 4DOX scoreboard accordingly (WIG)

  • Leads and employs root cause failure analysis techniques to improve asset OEE.
  • Expands the maintenance skills and knowledge of relevant team members through training, coaching and delegating activities.
  • Works directly with reliability coordinators to ensure consistency of application and promote sharing of best practices as it relates to maintenance planning and scheduling with SAP.
  • Leads, employs and supports LEAN concepts such as simple problem solving and visual management in all areas of responsibility.
  • This position will be a hand-on leadership role and will be expected to spend a minimum of 50% of their time away from their desk and interacting with the operating teams.
