Based out of your home office or one of our office locations in Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta or Vancouver, British Columbia, you’ll have the opportunity to work as part of multi-disciplinary project teams associated with our Western Canada offices to contribute to the environmental planning and permitting efforts of government and privately-owned infrastructure projects. The work will include field data collection, writing of technical reports, and regulatory applications. You’ll also support teams in completing client reports to company and industry standards. This position will start in the spring with an anticipated 80% of travel for fieldwork and 20% office work. A successful offer will be fulltime or a 12-month contract depending on workload and/or skillset. Contracts have the potential of extension or conversation to fulltime.

The base salary range for this position is $74,700 to $109,700. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across British Columbia, Canada locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in biology, related to botany, ecology, environmental sciences, an equivalent post secondary diploma or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Vascular plant identification skills sufficient to lead rare plant surveys. Including challenging groups such as grasses, sedges and willows.
  • 3-4 years of relevant professional experience conducting vegetation/rare plant surveys, including 1-2 years of experience leading vegetation/rare plant surveys.
  • Strong field skills and willingness to work in remote field locations for extended periods of time.
  • Aerial imagery interpretation experience.
  • A strong safety culture.
  • A driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • A strong understanding of ecological land classification (e.g., ELC, or Terrestrial Ecosystem Mapping [TEM]) and wetland classification schemas and experience conducting TEM plot surveys.
  • Relevant professional experience in environmental consulting or related field.
  • Familiarity with multiple ecological communities throughout Western Canada, particularly northern, coastal, and interior BC and boreal, parkland, and grassland AB.
  • P.Biol or RPBio designation or be working towards such designation.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience or interest to support other biophysical study areas such as wetlands, wildlife, soils, and/or fisheries field assessments.
  • Experience working with linear development construction programs.
  • Bryophyte or lichen identification skills are not required but are considered an asset.

What you will do

The Director, Project Management (DPM) will provide functional leadership to PM/SPM, support and oversight of large, multi-national projects, may be responsible for directing and leading the activities of a therapeutic area within a Region; may be responsible for directing large national or global projects or a program of projects, and/or complex projects in terms of customer/deliverables.

  • Works effectively across multiple divisions to direct the delivery of projects/programs within cost, time and quality requirements
  • Provide direct supervision, support, training and mentoring to project managers
  • Immediate supervision of employees, prepares and conducts performance appraisals and salary reviews, and applies company policies
  • Works with leadership in all functional areas on the continuous development/improvement of business processes to support cross-functional teams and to ensure that work is uniform, complete and managed appropriately instigating and leading change initiatives
  • Communicates with sponsor (s) to obtain direction and feedback on scope of work and performance
  • Serves as a liaison with Business Development and Bids/Contracts for the client presentations and proposal development
  • Assists in resource utilization, policy development, and implementation of goals

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tasks may include but are not limited to:

  • Direct line management of project management reports
  • Accountable for multiple projects simultaneously
  • Lead core project team and facilitate their ability to lead extended/complete project team
  • Lead cross-unit coordination both internal and external, inclusive of sub-contractors
  • Define and manage project resource needs and establish contingency plans for key resources
  • Ensure successful design, implementation, tracking and revision of project plans for assigned projects
  • Promote effective teamwork among project team members
  • Resolve conflicts as needed
  • Ensure appropriate communication on project-related matters with Senior Management
  • Meet financial performance targets for the assigned clinical projects/programs
  • Ensure project deliverables are met according to both WCT and client expectations
  • Initiate improvements to enhance the efficiency and the quality of the work performed on assigned projects
  • May be key client contact for assigned projects/clients
  • Establish excellent working relationships with client project teams and vendors to ensure client satisfaction and operational excellence
  • Ensure that all staff allocated to assigned projects adheres to professional standards and SOPs established for clinical research

Your experience

  • 10+ years industry experience with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Supervisory role within Clinical Project Management required (demonstrating expertise within Rare Disease – Cell/Gene Therapy) within a CRO setting is preferred
  • University/College degree, within Life Science is preferred
  • A demonstrated track record of success in clinical development and in leading and developing professional staff in a project led environment
  • Proven experience developing and managing the budgets and resources of a segment of the business
  • Broad knowledge of drug development process and client needs
  • Experience using project management software
  • Experience in conducting global clinical trials
  • Ability to travel when needed
