Role Description:

  • This position is for an Application Engineer that will be responsible for Protection and Automation offers for the United States Market.
  • The PA Application Engineer will play a significant role in business generation of Protection and Automation by preparing comprehensive technical and commercial proposals and solutions that best fits our customer needs, while ensuring competitive pricing.
  • The PA application engineer will work closely with Internal stakeholders and Siemens Sales in the USA to ensure timely offer preparation and support to customers in the industrial, construction and utility markets on technical, contractual, and commercial issues.
  • Provides leadership in the segment management.
  • Reviews and assign Request for Proposals and monitors proposal activity.
  • Ensure productivity to meet the offers team objectives and close orders.
  • The Application Engineer should be well versed in regional markets and product requirements.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • 5+ year engineering experience in an EPC, engineering, manufacturing, utility, or industrial corporate environment.
  • Knowledge and experience with the application of electrical distribution products and power systems/ power delivery.
  • Experience evaluating relay P&C schemes, schematics, communication network diagrams.
  • Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, UL and NEMA standards for power distribution applications. IEC standards knowledge is a plus.
  • Ability to analyze customer’s technical specifications, drawings, and datasheets to interpret and apply appropriate Siemens or 3rd party product offerings to meet the customers’ expectations in cost-effective and timely manner, offer alternative solutions to optimize profitability while meeting customer needs.
  • Excellent collaboration skills in a team environment, and demonstrated ability to perform and prioritize multiple, simultaneous tasks while maintaining excellent customer service.
  • Excellent communications skills to effectively and accurately communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Basic financial knowledge to understand and participate in ongoing business planning and support the product as well as project lifecycle management processes.
  • Ability to identify market trends and using this information, work closely with Marketing and Technology to create and justify projects to close the identified gaps.
  • Excellent PC skills including Microsoft Office tools and product configuration/pricing applications.

Job Summary:

To provide advice, guidance, assistance and support in all aspects of fire protection and prevention engineering.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a resource person and technical advisor to the Chief, Deputies, Division Chief, Fire Prevention and all other TFS divisions.
  • Provides interpretations of the Fire Protection and Prevention Act (FPPA), Building Code Act (BCA), Ontario Fire Code (OFC) and Ontario Building Code (OBC) and other applicable acts and regulations as they relate to fire, human safety (both occupants and emergency responders) and property protection.
  • Reviews and approves alternative solutions, alternative compliance solutions and life safety studies in accordance with the requirements of the OFC.
  • Carry out inspections of buildings with TFS Inspectors and/or Investigators to gather relevant facts to generate technical reports that can withstand challenges from professionals for use of TFS and the Fire Safety Commission where an appeal has been filed under the FPPA and/or judicial proceedings.
  • Review and provide advice to Fire Prevention and Fire Investigation staff on the merits of Inspection Orders.
  • Provide advice on the options available to TFS to take remedial actions pertaining to fire and life safety and preparing documents required for Immediate Threat to Life actions, Orders to Close and Authorizations to Close.
  • Assess the merits of filing an appeal to the Fire Safety Commission for orders rescinded by the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management (OFMEM) in the interest of fire safety.
  • Guides and provides advice to the public, consultants, building owners and other City of Toronto divisions, agencies, boards and commissions on all matters related to the application of the OFC, the OBC as it relates directly to the OFC and associated standards and regulations (ULC/UL, CSA, NFPA, CGA, etc.) pertinent to fire and safety.
  • Develops guidelines and advisories dealing with a wide range of subjects regarding fire prevention and protection.
  • Assesses and makes recommendations on code compliance reports and audits submitted for upgrading structures, renovations, developments and retrofitting buildings based on sound engineering practice. Evaluates conformance with the applicable regulations.
  • Provide evidence in Provincial Offences Court, Civil Court, Fire Safety Commission, Public Inquires and Coroners Inquests as required.
  • Develops a variety of communication materials on technical subjects, including writing articles, opinions and assisting in the development of internal policies.
  • Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of technical developments as they pertain to fire protection, safety including relevant legislation, industry standards, regulations, publications, abstracts and research bulletins.
  • Participates in internal reviews and quality assurance processes related to disclosure material, fire investigations and other legal instruments prepared and issued pursuant to the FPPA.
  • Develops courses, trains, lectures and coaches fire prevention staff.
  • Assist in the drafting of by-laws pertaining to fire issues.
  • Prepares engineering reports and specifications for various operating procedures, code interpretations and construction methods.
  • Review and comment on drafts, amendments and proposals for regulatory/statutory changes and national standards on behalf of the chief or the deputies for various Ontario ministries and national standard organizations as they relate to fire safety to ensure that Toronto Fire Services has viable input.
  • Represents the Fire Chief on various technical committees, both provincial and national.
  • Conduct code compliance, building performance and environmental impact reviews of firesand explosions.
  • Lead and participate in research groups in preparing technical reports on fire safety systems.

Key Qualifications:

  • Must be a qualified Engineer as defined by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), and must be registered with Professional Engineers Ontario, or licensed as a professional engineer in good standing in another Canadian engineering association with ability to obtain license with Professional Engineers Ontario.
  • Experience in conducting fire investigations conducted in accordance with Fire Marshal directives and Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management (OFMEM) technical and public fire safety guidelines.
  • Experience in the design and installation of fire alarm systems.
  • Experience in the design, development and delivery of fire prevention and protection training.
  • Experience in preparing cases for and providing evidence in Provincial Offences Court, Criminal Court, Coroner’s Inquests, Public Inquiries, Fire Safety Commission, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Ontario Fire Code.
  • Considerable knowledge of the Ontario Building Code (completion of Fire Protection Building Code qualification examination is an asset), CAN/ULC standards as they relate to fire protection, NFPA Standards, etc.
  • Exceptional communication skills (oral and written) that includes excellent report writing, briefing material preparation and strong presentation skills, and able to deliver to various levels of staff and other groups.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be available to respond to emergencies or other work situations beyond the regular working day, as required, often on short notice.
  • Must be able to work days, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays as required.
  • Possession and ability to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class “G” Driver’s Licence.

  • Lead the launch of OneTrust for UK&I and embed and maintain post-implementation activities.
  • Support and project manage each site and function in identifying, mapping and assessing their business processes, carry out data protection impact assessments, legitimate interest assessments and draft privacy notices. Own and coordinate implementation of controls and mitigation measures for identified risks.
  • Carry out due diligence on third parties processing personal data and ensure appropriate controls are in place.
  • Build and lead a data protection network across UK&I, including training functional data protection leads and business process owners.
  • Manage data breach incidents and subject access requests, including training, coaching and supporting functional data protection leads.
  • Be the voice of UK&I in Syngenta’s global and regional data protection networks.

Qualifications

Education & experience required:

  • Minimum of a GDPR Practitioner Certificate
  • Desirable would be Certified Information Privacy Professional Europe (CIPP/E), Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) or equivalent
  • Significant experience in all aspects of managing data protection compliance.
  • Excellent knowledge of data protection laws (UK GDPR, EU GDPR, Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR)).
  • Experience of using One Trust (desirable)
  • Practical experience of vendor risk assessments, business process mapping, risk management (including reviewing contractual clauses, data processing agreements and privacy notices)
  • Analytical thinker with sound business acumen and ability to converse with a wide variety of stakeholders within diverse business areas and offer practical solutions which are targeted to the actual risks.
  • Ability to translate complex legal principles into pragmatic advice, whilst striking a reasonable balance between privacy constraints and business requirements.
  • Team player with an ability to build up good relationships with colleagues and eager to learn.
  • Ability to work autonomously, possessing excellent organisation skills and a process orientated mindset.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills across all levels.

Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking Initial Assessments
  • Undertaking Core Assessments
  • Undertaking Child Protection Enquiries
  • Undertaking Pre-Birth Assessments
  • Undertaking Parenting Assessments
  • Undertaking assessments
  • Undertaking Risk Assessments
  • Completion of Section 7 reports requested by Family Courts
  • Completion of Section 37 reports requested by Family Courts
  • Providing Section 17 support to families and children in need

This position exists to provide an essential service to facilitate the safe operation of Candu licensed facilities to meet CANDU’s business objectives/customer requirements, and to ensure that this function is performed efficiently, within all applicable regulatory requirements. This position reports to the Radiation Protection Manager.

This role will be based in Mississauga, ON.

Your role within the Team:

  • Perform formal and on-the-job training provided to satisfy the requirements for duty as a Radiation Surveyor.
  • To develop a good knowledge of the Radiation Protection Program at Candu Energy Inc. and achieve Group 1 RP qualifications as well as RAMT qualification.
  • To develop good knowledge of all instruments used by Radiation Surveyors in the course of their work.
  • To perform Radiation Survey duties under varying degrees of supervision, including shift work or irregular hours.
  • To perform radiation surveys as requested by supervisors, including daily routine radiation surveys, posting, and marking radiation signage and zones.
  • Perform contamination checks on personnel (exit procedures from radiation zones), and equipment or facilities.
  • Assist with personnel decontamination after a personal contamination event.
  • Work Permits procedural compliance, and in offering advice on radiation protection or contamination control questions as they arise in daily activities.
  • To inform immediate supervision of any unusual conditions or actions impacting radiation protection.
  • To be conscious of the interaction between radiation control measures and their effects on production and schedule responsibilities.
  • To maintain records and daily logs.
  • To assist in radiation protection training delivery.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working in a radiation environment.
  • Experience as a radiation surveyor (or equivalent) and good working knowledge of survey instrumentation.
  • Candu RAMT qualification.
  • Possess a high sense of individual responsibility.
  • Possess the ability to improve and deal with rapidly changing conditions.
  • Possess initiative, and the ability to work effectively with others.
  • Possess good organizational skills and be effective at prioritizing and working to tight schedules.
  • Ability to support projects from all SNC clients domestic, and international.
  • Ability to oversee radioactive work; to be tactful and diplomatic with all levels of authority.
  • Ability to work in teams, maintain strong cooperation with co-workers.
  • Be able to liaise with management, supervision, customers, and regulatory agencies using tact and good judgement.
  • Good knowledge of site policies.
  • Good record maintenance skills.
  • Must be painstakingly accurate, conscientious and possess excellent judgement.
  • Must possess sound computer skills and knowledge.
  • Have or be able to receive Secret Security Clearance.
  • Be physically capable of lifting, handling, etc. various items on a regular basis.
