We are looking for a Network Manager to coordinate the new “AI in the Biosciences” network project (https://aibio.ac.uk/).

This is a BBSRC-funded network to support and enhance engagement between the Bioscience and AI communities in the UK. The network will support community events, funding of pilot projects and creation of resources for supporting use of AI in the biosciences.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems are used in wide-ranging applications, from self-driving cars to language translation. Recent AI applications to the biosciences have been promising (e.g., deep learning systems for the prediction of protein structure), but efforts have been sparse and uncoordinated, and limited to groups/companies with specific expertise. Our vision is to bring together AI and core bioscience researchers to unravel biological fundamentals and tackle impeding societal challenges. The network will be the “go to” place for resources at the interface between AI and the biosciences.

As the Network Manager you will:

• Support the Principal Investigator and management group in the management of the project, including the allocation and management of research funding across multiple institutions.
• Promote the project both internally and externally, including by maintaining a dedicated project website and maintaining the project’s social media output.
• Liaise with the Management Group and Community Working Groups (on Ethics, Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), Equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI))
• Coordinate internal funding calls, referee processes and distribution of awards.
• Develop relationships with potential new partners.
• Organise outreach and engagement with the wider public in partnership with the relevant bodies.
• Support the Principal Investigator in the day-to-day running of the project.

You should have:

• Experience of project or network coordination in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Problem solving skills and experience in conflict resolution.
• Excellent organisational, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
• Ability to identify key points from complex or large amounts of information and present to disparate stakeholders.
• The ability to plan own work activities in response to differing priorities and meeting deadlines.
• Experience of website and social media content design and maintenance

Infrastructure Security Operations (ISO) is responsible for planning, designing, building, operating and maintaining effective, efficient and responsive cyber and IT security infrastructure to protect GC data and technology assets. ISO delivers technical safeguards that protect the government network systems and services by detecting and preventing unauthorized access, misuse, modification and denial of network-accessible resources and data. ISO provides protection through perimeter/border defense services, intrusion detection and prevention services, wired/wireless protection services and web filtering services. End-point protection and security monitoring are done through anti-virus/malware services, end-point management services, event logging and auditing services, and compliance threat and vulnerability assessment infrastructure services.The ISO directorate also provides enterprise-level authentication services to both GC employees and external client communities such as Canadian citizens and businesses. Enterprise Mandated Services comprise Internal and External Credential Management, Government of Canada Internal Credential Management services, Management of Identity, Credential Authentication, and Public Key Infrastructure.

About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Network Analyst III join our dynamic IT Strategy and Governance team.

The IT Strategy and Governance team designs the direction of technology use within Canadian Blood Services, ensuring it aligns with business objectives. They also establish and enforce policies and frameworks to manage risks, compliance, and resource allocation effectively.

In this role you will be primarily responsible for driving technology change, planning and delivery of Canadian Blood Services core network services as well as fulfill delivery duties to internal and external Canadian Blood Services stakeholders to meet business goals.

The key responsibilities include the planning, design, configuration and integration of core IT network services and enterprise networking infrastructure including switching, routing, wireless, firewalls, and network monitoring for on-premises and Azure services. This role requires experience and specialization in highly technical aspects of network hardware, software, and connectivity to influence the innovation as a member of the project delivery area.

Formula for success

• Leveraging your skills in network infrastructure, you will collaborate with team members on multiple IT initiatives, providing support throughout project lifecycles.

Desired education and skills

• Minimum of 5 years in a third/fourth level technical support role managing an enterprise network infrastructure.
