Based out of your home office or one of our office locations in Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta or Vancouver, British Columbia, you’ll have the opportunity to work as part of multi-disciplinary project teams associated with our Western Canada offices to contribute to the environmental planning and permitting efforts of government and privately-owned infrastructure projects. The work will include field data collection, writing of technical reports, and regulatory applications. You’ll also support teams in completing client reports to company and industry standards. This position will start in the spring with an anticipated 80% of travel for fieldwork and 20% office work. A successful offer will be fulltime or a 12-month contract depending on workload and/or skillset. Contracts have the potential of extension or conversation to fulltime.

The base salary range for this position is $62,300 to $87,600. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across British Columbia, Canada locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • B.Sc. in biology, related to botany, ecology, environmental sciences, an equivalent post secondary diploma or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Vascular plant identification skills sufficient to be the second team member on rare plant surveys. Including challenging groups such as grasses, sedges and willows.
  • 2-3 years of relevant professional experience conducting vegetation surveys, ideally, involving rare plants.
  • Strong field skills and willingness to work in remote field locations for extended periods of time.
  • Aerial imagery interpretation experience.
  • A strong safety culture.
  • A driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • An understanding of ecological land classification (e.g., ELC, or Terrestrial Ecosystem Mapping [TEM]) and wetland classification schemas; experience conducting TEM plot surveys would be an asset.
  • Relevant professional experience in environmental consulting or related field.
  • Familiarity with ecological communities in Western Canada, particularly northern, coastal, and interior BC, and boreal, parkland, and grassland AB.
  • P.Biol. or R.P.Bio. designation or be working towards such designation.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience or interest to support other biophysical study areas such as wetlands, wildlife, soils, and/or fisheries field assessments.
  • Experience working with linear development construction programs.
  • Bryophyte or lichen identification skills are not required but are considered an asset.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in biology or other environmental discipline, primarily related to wildlife, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Hold or be eligible for a Professional designation, with an organization such as the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists and/or the BC College of Applied Biology.
  • Multiple years’ experience in environmental consulting related to Canadian wildlife.
  • Demonstrated multi-year experience leading wildlife-related field studies, reviewing and QA field data, and directing and/or managing wildlife crews in remote settings, with an emphasis on wildlife feature searches, bird surveys and nest searches, amphibian surveys and relocations, and targeted species-at-risk surveys.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of provincial and federal wildlife legislation and regulatory requirements, primarily in western Canada.
  • Willingness and comfort working in the field in remote locations for up to 2 or 3 weeks at a time and overnight at hotels and project work camps.
  • Experience in client and stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, team-oriented, and suited to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Positive attitude, self-motivated with strong initiative, and desire to lead and mentor fellow biologists.
  • A driver’s license and ability to provide a clean, 3 year driving abstract.

Ideally, You’ll Also Have:

  • Experience working with a diverse range of industrial clients.

Our New York office is seeking a Intermediate Interior Designer with significant design skills, with a focus on FF&E. We are looking for a detail-oriented, entrepreneurial-spirited, and well-rounded designer. The position entails project management in all project phases from concept through installation, including vendor communication and procurement.

Working with the project team, the right candidate should possess good spatial sense, an eye for detail and a strong ability to communicate graphically. Knowledge of the interior design FF&E selection and specification process as well as the more technical side of design (construction documents, details, plans, elevations, etc.) is required. Candidate must possess a strong ability to switch gears between scales and phases of projects with enthusiasm and work on multiple projects at once. DESIGN

  • Lead with designing custom furniture for specific projects

Tetra Tech is currently looking to hire an Intermediate Geochemist to be based out of our Vancouver, BC office. This is an opportunity to work with world-class engineers dedicated to working on civil and geotechnical engineering projects from conceptual design to final construction. On occasion your expertise may be needed by our parent company on some of their challenging international projects. If you are located outside of Vancouver, BC but close to one of our offices we may consider having you work remotely.

Some of the Responsibilities you may have:

  • Managing and directing all project phases from project definition to proposal writing, data collection and fieldwork, laboratory management, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Contributing to existing geochemistry projects including sampling and geochemical and isotopic characterization of rocks, waters, gases, and organic materials.
  • Conducting geochemical and hydro chemical fieldwork, data management, QA/QC, data manipulation and geochemical modeling using speciation and mass transport codes.
  • Mentoring and training junior scientific staff and technicians.

Qualifications that would make you a great candidate:

  • Ten or more years of relevant Geochemical experience and knowledge is required in the areas of Acid Rock Drainage, Metal Leaching potential and overall water quality assessments. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the mining industry
  • Candidates must possess one or more relevant science or engineering degrees from an accredited university in mining, geoscience, or geochemistry
  • Knowledge and experience with applicable federal and provincial regulations and guidelines, preferably with a working knowledge of BC, Yukon, Nunavut, and Northwest Territories mine permitting processes
  • Experience with geochemical modelling software such as PHREEQC, Geochemist’s Workbench, etc.
  • Ability to prepare pragmatic defensible technical reports in English in accordance with regulatory guidelines, and to communicate and liaise effectively and credibly with members of regulatory bodies, industry, special interest groups and First Nations are also required.
  • Be willing to travel domestically, occasionally in remote and varying environments sometimes with limited communications and logistical support
  • Show comprehension and application of strong business ethics and health, safety, and environmental principles
  • Demonstrated progressive management experience and a desire to build and contribute to an effective team would be an asset
  • Previous consulting experience is preferred although not essential.
  • Registered or qualified for registration with an applicable professional association.

Job Description

AECOM’s Environment Team is actively seeking an Intermediate-level Environmental Planner to join our Impact Assessment and Permitting Team in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This position will integrate into a well-developed team of environmental scientists, planners, and engineers to provide support on various infrastructure and development projects across a range of sectors, including mining, transport (road/rail), water/wastewater utilities, energy, and oil and gas. We are looking for an environmental candidate to assist with timely delivery of high-quality environmental assessments including data analysis, regulatory permitting submissions, public and stakeholder engagement, technical writing, and presentations. We are seeking highly motivated and accountable candidate that works collaboratively with other team members and are effective communicators. Organizational skills and an ability to work well on multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment are essential qualities. This is a permanent full time position reporting to the Impact Assessment & Permitting Lead in Winnipeg.

As part of our team, the successful applicant will assist in environmental work and deliverables throughout a project life cycle, including:

  • Working with and supporting Senior Environmental Planners and Project Managers in executing provincial, and Federal environmental assessments/impact assessments (planning, preliminary design, detail design, alternative delivery projects) as well as other approval and permitting activities for infrastructure/development projects.
  • Effectively and efficiently managing desktop environmental assessments using GIS and other available methods to address potential permitting requirements.
  • Assist project managers in the planning, coordination and logistics of project activities, including field work and professional and public consultation workshops.
  • Developing and executing engagement and consultation programs; including public, municipal, regulatory agency and Indigenous Community engagement, coordinating environmental specialists, as well as identifying and assessing environmental features, constraints, alternatives, potential effects, mitigation measures and avoidance opportunities.
  • Facilitate meetings with clients, stakeholders, and environmental regulatory agencies, including tracking of meeting minutes and reports.
  • Liaising with local, provincial, and Federal agencies regarding permits and approvals.
  • Collaborating with technical and professional staff across the company in completing assignments.
  • Coordinating, preparing for, attending, and documenting project meetings.
  • Support Project Managers in the development of project proposals.
  • Provides responsive, high-quality service to colleagues, clients, and other stakeholders by providing accurate, complete and up-to-date information, in a courteous, efficient and timely manner.
  • Some overnight travel may be required to service project needs of the client.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3 – 5 years of experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related areas (e.g. Natural Resource Management, Natural Sciences, Environmental Studies)
  • 2+ years’ experience supporting environmental assessments, regulatory permitting or monitoring projects.
  • Strong analytical, planning, organization, problem solving and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills as this role requires continuous interaction with team leaders.
  • Ability to express ideas logically, clearly and concisely; function effectively as part of a team; maintain discretion and confidentiality and work in both field and office environments.
  • Class 5 driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working for environmental or engineering consulting companies is an asset.
  • Experience engaging with Indigenous communities is an asset.
  • Bilingual (English and French) an asset.

Additional Information

  • Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.
  • Offered rate of compensation in Winnipeg will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $54,000.00 – $80,000.00.
