SCOPE
Reporting to the Manager, Networks, Security, and HPC, Academic Information Technology Services(AITS), the incumbent provide IT instructional support for the practical training of students in the area such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, cyber-security and advanced networking, including the use of HPC. The incumbent works as part of the NAG/HPC team to deploy and support IT systems and services, and their networking, ensuring that these systems are secure, reliable and adhere to all relevant institutional standards in support of teaching and research. This includes providing user support for HPC schedulers, HPC teaching tasks and the installation and configuration of research servers.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide primary instructional support for Gina Cody School (GCS) students including the use of the Faculty’s HPC cluster facilities and other related learning & teaching services.
• Provide guidance and training to other IT support staff (e.g. Service Desk), teaching and research assistants
• Resolve server and service problems reported by the University community and provide effective remedies.
• Ensure smooth system(s) operation which includes systems monitoring and performance tuning activities.
• Maintain and support in-house systems.
• Maintain awareness of server and other infrastructure technology and software. Recommend assimilation of potentially useful products or services into supported product line.
• Evaluate users’ current hardware and software implementations and recommend appropriate improvements for IT-related teaching and research.
• Implement operating system and application updates and upgrades, including applying patches.
• Install new server, networking, and infrastructure software and equipment. Ensure that systems are secure and reliable. Collaborate with clients to define and implement operational procedures (e.g. maintenance windows, backup schedules, monitoring software).
• Assist in the selection and purchase of server & infrastructure hardware and software.
• Assist in producing documentation.
• Offer onsite support for client research server computers when required.
• Undertake other tasks as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field with two to four years of relevant experience.
• ITIL Certification is an asset.
• Excellent knowledge of HPC schedulers such as AGE (formerly UGE), SLURM, etc.
• Excellent knowledge of and experience installing, configuring, optimizing and securing server systems such as Linux (RHEL), Ubuntu, etc.
• Excellent knowledge in programming using languages such as C++, Python, etc.
• Good spoken (Level 4: able to give and understand detailed explanations and descriptions) and basic written English (Level 3: able to prepare short, routine correspondence); Basic spoken and written French (level 3).
• Excellent knowledge of and experience working with authentication, communications and collaboration systems.
• Excellent knowledge of and experience working with network protocols (e.g., DHCP, DNS, Cisco-protocols)
• Excellent knowledge of and working experience with Singularity, Docker, VMware or other server container or virtualization platforms.
• Experience working with network devices as well as server and PC hardware (eg. RAM memory, disks).
• Experience working within ITIL (or equivalent) framework (Incident Management Change Management, Release & Deploy Management, Problem Management).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
• Dedicated to providing exemplary customer service.

Position Summary:

This role reports to the Manager of Instructional Design/Development. Under the guidance of the manager and/or with support from more senior Instructional Designers, the Instructional Designer/Developer will perform the end-to-end analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of PointClickCare customer, partner and staff product training and certification learning needs. Utilizing foundational knowledge/experience of instructional design and a basic skill set in authoring and visual design tools, this position is responsible for the creation, maintenance, and deployment of all educational solutions that support the successful adoption of PointClickCare’s products.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate cross-functionally with Project Management, Product, and Customer Care teams to understand business goals, prioritize tasks, negotiate content, communicate timeframes, and to ensure content accuracy and quality
• Determine the appropriate learning strategies that will meet business outcomes.
• Follow adult learning best practices to design, develop, and maintain customer education materials including eLearning courses, virtual and traditional instructor-led facilitator guides and materials, performance support documentation and tools, surveys, knowledge checks, and mastery level tests.
• Support creation of material used in internal and partner certification programs.
• Provide creative and unique solutions that enhance education, engage learners and transfer knowledge more effectively.
• Manage projects with support from manager and team through the entire life cycle from analysis through implementation to complete project deliverables within planned scope, quality, and timelines.
• Effectively communicate and collaborate on a virtual team.
• Focus on scripting course dialogue in conversational tones to convey topics and new concepts in a relatable manner
• Design storyboards, scripts, and other related materials to develop highly engaging and impactful learning solutions.

Required Experience

• Foundational ability to use Articulate Storyline 360
• Foundational understanding of instructional design principles and delivering online education
• Excellent presentation and communication skills to communicate clearly, both verbally and in written formats
• Self-motivated with fundamental organization skills to manage multiple projects and priorities
• Basic time management skills with the ability to be agile and adapt quickly to changing priorities
• Analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills
• Ability to deal with ambiguity and work independently to successfully deliver on departmental goals
• Basic knowledge of Learning Management Systems and standards such as SCORM, AICC, and xAPI

Preferred Experience

• University degree in instructional design, a certificate in instructional design, or equivalent experience
• Basic experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, Vyond, Camtasia, and Articulate Rise
• Working knowledge of software release cycles and the ability to maintain deliverables that align with each release
• Experience with SharePoint, SnagIt, Smartsheet, Netsuite, JIRA Microsoft Office tools
• Entry level visual design skills
• Well-founded knowledge of Long-Term Post-Acute Care (LTPAC) industry
• Working knowledge of PointClickCare software or similar healthcare software experience
