Job description: The School of Nursing in the Faculty of Health at York University invites highly qualified applicants for
a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor position in
Indigenous Health, History & Healing. This is a tenure-track appointment to the Professorial Stream,
to commence July 1, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Canada Research Chair program seeks to attract outstanding researchers for careers at Canadian
universities. Tier 2 Chairs are intended for exceptional emerging scholars (i.e., within 10 years of
attaining their highest degree at the time of nomination, with consideration for career breaks) who
have the acknowledged potential to lead their field of research. Appointment to a Tier 2 Chair is for
five years, is renewable once, and comes with enhanced research support from the program.
Applicants who are more than 10 years from their highest degree (and where career breaks exist,
including maternity leave, extended sick leave, clinical training, etc.) may have their eligibility for a
Tier 2 Canada Research Chair assessed through the progra ase see

epistemologies and/or the health and wellness of Indigenous Peoples and communities.
o Demonstrated commitment to policy engagement through the co-creation of research and the
development and/or use of culturally responsive health and wellness-impacting technologies,
practices, or governance. This may include scholarship on wellness for Indigenous Peoples,
addressing holistic (mental, physical, emotional, spiritual) and interconnected (with the natural
and spirit worlds, past/future generations) approaches.
o A demonstrated leadership ability, or the potential as such, in supporting community
engagement activities with First Nations, Métis, Inuit and urban Indigenous communities.
o A record or evident promise of generating innovative, substantive, rigorous, and as appropriate,
externally funded research and/or research creation (research or arts councils, Indigenous
community funding, foundations). For appointment as Associate Professor, a record of external
grants is required.
o A record or evident promise of making influential contributions and demonstrating excellence in
the field by the contribution to or establishment of community-based research and
programming, ongoing health and wellness related activities, creation of digital apps/works,
publications in peer-reviewed journals, non-peer reviewed reports, works of art, knowledge
mobilization with/for communities, presentations at conferences and workshops, and influence
on Indigenous health and wellness policies and programs.

o A record or evident promise of excellence in teaching and dedication to students.
o Supervisory accomplishments and pedagogical innovations, including curricular development,
teaching evaluations, and supervision of research students.
o Suitability for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies, given that the position will
involve graduate teaching and supervision. For appointment as Associate Professor, a record of
graduate student supervision, as well as undergraduate teaching experience, is required.

The School of Health Policy & Management and the School of Nursing, in the Faculty of Health at York
University invites highly qualified applicants for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair (CRC) at the rank of an
Associate/Full Professor position in Technoscience and Indigenous Communities. This is a tenure-track
appointment to the Professorial Stream to commence July 1, 2024.

The Canada Research Chairs (CRC) program seeks to attract outstanding researchers for careers at
Canadian universities. Tier 1 Chairs are intended for outstanding researchers acknowledged by their peers
as world leaders in their fields. Appointment to a Tier 1 Chair is for seven years, is renewable once, and
comes with enhanced research support from the program. Nominees for Tier 1 Chair positions must be full
professors or associate professors who are expected to be promoted to the full professor level within one
or two years of the nomination. Alternatively, if they come from outside the academic sector, nominees
must possess the necessary qualifications to be appointed at these levels. The successful candidate is
expected to submit a CRC application within two years of this advertisement (December 2025). Please see

Needs and Predicted Impact; II. Fundamentals of Social Interaction: Neural, Algorithmic, and Social
Networks; and III. Designing and Developing Socially Responsible Technologies. The Connected Minds
program is supported by a total of $318 million in funding over seven years.

Candidate Qualifications1:

• Degree: PhD, MD, DrPH or equivalent doctoral degree with a substantial record of professional

experience in Indigenous health and wellness research and programming, and technology is required.
Experience in health care practice and/or health care services is highly desired.

• Scholarship:

o A coherent and well-articulated program of research on the health and wellness of Indigenous
Peoples and communities through the co-creation of research and the development and/or use of
culturally responsive health and wellness-impacting technologies and practices. This may include
scholarship on wellness for Indigenous Peoples, addressing holistic (mental, physical, emotional,
spiritual) and interconnected (with the natural and spirit worlds, past/future generations)
approaches, and/or developing accessible technology and safeguards, including in Indigenous
communities. Candidates must have demonstrated leadership abilities in supporting community
engagement activities including First Nations, Métis, Inuit and urban Indigenous communities.
o A record of generating innovative, substantive, rigorous, and as appropriate, externally funded
research.
o A record of making influential contributions and demonstrating excellence in the field by the
establishment of community-based research and programming, ongoing health and wellness related
activities, publications in peer-reviewed journals, knowledge mobilization with/for communities,
presentations at international conferences and workshops, and influence on Indigenous health and
wellness policies and programs.

• Teaching:

o A record of excellence in teaching and dedication to students demonstrating experience in
decolonizing/indigenizing education, such as addressing issues of conflict resolution, human rights,
and/or anti-racism within the curriculum. The candidate should have experience in graduate
supervision and developing academic and career pathways for Indigenous health professionals.
o Suitability for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies, given that the position will
involve graduate teaching and supervision.

This position aims to build upon ties to the Native peoples of present-day North Carolina through research and teaching focused on Native peoples located in North Carolina today or on nations with ties to the land within what is now North Carolina. We seek a visionary scholar whose research, teaching, and service centers Indigeneity, the region’s deep and complex history, and the enduring presence of Indigenous spaces and localities. The department embraces a capacious definition of scholarship and welcomes applicants from traditional disciplines as well as emerging fields of inter- and transdisciplinary exploration. We are particularly interested in engaged scholars with a demonstrated record of accomplishment in contributing to critical conversations in the academy, producing public-facing work, and collaborating with Indigenous communities.
