About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a regular full-time Manager, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to join our dynamic Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team.

Canadian Blood Services’ diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) function is responsible for delivering and operationalizing a sustainable DEI strategy and roadmap for the organization. The DEI team works closely with senior leaders, employees, and stakeholders to advance DEI with intentionality across the organization and within the broader health care landscape.

In this role, you will be a subject matter expert on tactical aspects of diversity, equity, and inclusion issues that plays a lead role in the guidance and execution of the initiatives outlined in the DEI strategy as well as provide advisory expertise to the business and leaders who are leading DEI change or grappling with a DEI challenge. You will be tasked with contributing to the design, planning, and implementation of programs and initiatives intended to create a more inclusive, equitable and diverse culture at Canadian Blood Services. You will support the Associate Director, DEI, and other members of the DEI team in working collaboratively with all components of Canadian Blood Services to create processes and advance initiatives to identify and remove systemic barriers within the organization, its programs, and operations.

Formula for success

  • Leveraging your ability to plan, design and project manage complex strategies, programs, and initiatives, you will support the execution of the DEI and/or reconciliation initiatives in partnership with the Associate Director, DEI, and Director, DEI; may provide input to the strategic plan development and integrated planning.
  • Drawing on your knowledge and expertise, you will develop and implement an effective ERG structure that aligns with the organizational DEI strategy.
  • Focusing on your proven ability to provide structure and leadership, you will collaborate and partner with ERGs to create and implement plans, programs, DEI events, activities, and initiatives, including cultural observances that advance DEI across the organization.
  • Utilizing your effective communication skills, you will respond to sensitive and complex issues that arise in the ERGs, and provide advice, guidance, direction, and consultation to ERG chairs.
  • You will be required to support the overall approach to ERG structure, guiding principles, and resource support to the ERG leads and sponsors.
  • Using your excellent interpersonal skills, you will lead listening and feedback sessions to learn first-hand information from employees about the state of DEI and reconciliation.
  • Concentrating on your ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, you will identify, develop, and maintain relationships with external equity-deserving external stakeholders, groups, and communities.
  • You will be responsible for advising leaders and business partner communities on how to build an inclusive culture and how to repair during and post DEI challenges.
  • Leveraging your excellent facilitation skills, you will design, develop, and deliver DEI education and learning resources that will equip employees and leaders with the knowledge, tools, and skills to advance an inclusive, anti-racist culture.
  • You will build an environment of collegiality, respect, and inclusiveness, in which staff, donors, and volunteers, and the broader community jointly participate in and benefit from our exposure to our unique mission.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Desired education and skills

  • Completion of a university degree in a related subject (for example social science, sociology, cultural studies, anthropology, women’s studies, Indigenous studies, social work, human resources management, commerce) will be required.
  • Canadian Certified Inclusion Professional (CCIP) designation or any DEI certification will be considered an asset.
  • A minimum of seven or more years of related experience including advancing employee resource groups (ERGs), developing ERG action plans and strategy, consulting, planning, implementing, and maintaining DEI-related programs.
  • Experience advancing diversity and inclusion initiatives within a complex organization.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite with in-depth knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and online collaboration tools (yammer, etc.)
  • Excellent computer/technical literacy and competency with various business software applications, e.g., spreadsheets, documents, and presentation tools.
  • Intermediate level knowledge of anti-oppression, equity, diversity, anti-racism, accessibility/UDL and inclusion frameworks.
  • Lived experience as an Indigenous person or member of an equity-deserving group is preferred. The equity-deserving group includes, but not limited to racialized persons, 2SLGBTQ1A+ persons, and persons living with visible and/or invisible disabilities.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.

Duties and responsibilities

Talent Acquisition:

  • Develop employer branding strategies and lead the deployment of targeted initiatives;
  • Act as Ambassador of the employer brand and collaborate in activities to increase the visibility of the company;
  • Manage the entire talent attraction and acquisition process for Canadian and US position, crew and office positions: Collaborate with internal clients in their recruiting effort in collaboration with the HRBP;
  • Collaborate in the efforts related to Workforce Planning to identify the number of office employees as well as crew members required before and during the season;
  • Manage Talent acquisition relate projects;Manage and optimize the use of the Talent Acquisition System to improve the efficiency of the recruitment process and maximize the candidate experience;
  • Maximize the hiring of top talent by continuously improving and optimizing the quality of recruitment and selection practices and tools;
  • Create and maintain a recruitment candidate pools by developing a network and being connected to the job market and social media;
  • Develop strategies to attract young talent through partnerships with schools and universities and participate in activities related to internship programs, scholarships, career days, etc.;
  • Maximize the use of web tools and social networks to feed the recruitment strategy;
  • Lead the efforts to attract, recruit and sometimes relocate international workforce;

Internship & Cadet Program:

  • Maintain relationship and regular communication with different Universities and maritime schools;
  • Work with the business and Operations to identify the number of interns and cadets required for the next quarter/season;
  • Be present at the different school career fairs;
  • Oversee the recruitment process for interns and cadets;
  • Make the offers and prepare the onboarding process;

Diversity & Inclusion:

  • Responsible for developing and implementing a diversity, equity and inclusion strategy that includes a variety of initiatives and programs;
  • Collaborate with the ESG department to generate and provide meaningful data and reporting related to CSL diversity;
  • Plan and conduct inclusion events;
  • Conduct diversity workshops and seminars;
  • Various support to the HR department on other administrative tasks.

Qualification and skills

  • 5-10 years experience in talent acquisition strategy, recruitment process and internship program;
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, administration or equivalent;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, Outlook;
  • Bilingual (English and French) with solid verbal and written communication skills;
  • Positive and professional attitude;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation;
  • Attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines;
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities coming from different directions;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, mainly Excel.

Who we need:

We have launched a two-year Project Management graduate program with three annual intakes. This is an exciting initiative that will rapidly scale and provide continuous growth opportunities.

We are looking to pipeline for Adjunct Faculty to teach our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion courses. The successful candidate will hold a completed master’s degree in business or related discipline from a recognized university, and possess a polished track record of leading EDI-related projects and initiatives. The successful candidate will be expected to effectively deliver the course to a class size of approximately 50 adult students.

Courses are facilitated Monday to Friday 9am to 9pm and weekends from 9am to 6pm. Successful candidates are expected to be physically accessible to both locations at Brampton (24 Queen Street E) and Mississauga (5110 Creekbank Road). Remote and on campus opportunities are available (using Moodle as an online delivery platform).

What you will do:

  • Teaching and managing student performance.
  • Fostering student success through ongoing support and coaching.
  • Managing discussion forums and learning activities through the Moodle platform.
  • Timely marking and feedback for all student assessments.
  • Respond to student inquiries and concerns.
  • Participate in University and Program level committees.
  • Perform administrative tasks related to the course.
  • Support strategic program growth and ensure ongoing self-development in the field.

What you bring:

  • A Master’s degree in business or related discipline, with preference given to DBA holders.
  • At least 3 years’ teaching experience at post-secondary level (preference given to those with international student experience).
  • At least 5 years’ experience leading and delivering Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives.
  • A cross-cultural, interdisciplinary, modernized base of knowledge and ideas.
  • Advanced fluency in English – spoken, written, presentation, email.
  • Exceptional people skills and ability to connect with a diverse student base.
