Job description: We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified Physician’s Associate to join our Gastroenterology workforce at the Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle. This post will be based predominantly on our Gastro ward. The successful candidate will become part of a small team of Physician Associates within NCIC and will be supported by a Medical Supervisor throughout their employment.

Main duties of the job

The successful post holder will be required to utilise advanced clinical decision making and clinical skills to effectively manage patients within gastro. The Physicians Associate role is pivotal within both medical and nursing teams, helping to coordinate, communicate and deliver clinical care on a day to day basis.

You will provide expert assistance to the Consultant, middle grade and junior doctors in the provision of a high quality, patient centred service as part of a multidisciplinary ward team. You will be expected to participate in all aspects of the patient pathway as appropriate and will be expected to perform delegated duties with a high degree of clinical skill and knowledge.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

  • Member of Faculty of Physician Associates (FPA)
  • BA/BS Degree prior to undertaking PA program
  • PG Dip/Msc in Physician Associate Studies from a UK training
  • Registration with the PA Managed Voluntary Registry for physician associates (PAMVR)

Desirable

  • BLS/ILS certification
  • Short courses including the above to Masters level or equivalent

Knowledge and Experience
Essential

  • Evidence of continual CPD (review of portfolio)
  • Maintenance of Physician Associate clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
  • Clinical diagnostic skills including the ability to interpret as a minimum CXR, AXR and laboratory investigations
  • Has the ability to use basic IT systems including Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as ability to learn Trust specific IT systems
  • Ability to manage a team of patients and prioritise work
  • Able to present and receive complex information from the MDT

Desirable

  • Experience of conducting clinical audit
  • Experience in managing chronic health issues
  • Evidence of a teaching/coaching/ mentoring course
  • Experience in leadership and or management
  • Substantial broad experience relevant to clinical area
  • Experience in managing acute problems
