The role

Successful candidates will have excellent communication skills and the capacity to teach digital and analogue processes within a motion design context.

This role is for 35 hours a week, with a set working pattern determined by the Programme Leader.

About you

We are looking for a passionate motion designer to join our graphic communication lecturing team. Hands on working, guiding students to reach their potential will be at the heart of what you do. This is a chance for a vocational academic to indulge their passion, be an inspiring mentor and valued colleague, someone who brings something uniquely their own to the core team. This means you will need several strings to your bow.

Conversant in 2D/3D animation, video production, visual effects, and motion graphics, you will be teaching students the art and techniques of compositing, as well as industry and studio practices. You need to have proven working knowledge of industry standard software including Cinema 4D, Houdini and After Effects. Additional knowledge of experiential design and AR/VR environments is also desirable.

You will have a strong understanding of the history, context and future potential of motion design, be aware of design trends, industry standards and emerging technologies needed to stay ahead of the curve.

You will have experience in senior-level teaching, be at ease in a lecture theatre and seminar setting, and able to meet the needs of a large and diverse student body. You should have the ability to supervise and advise students on study skills, identifying their learning needs and defining learning objectives as well as assessing their work and providing constructive feedback. The candidates experience will dictate if the senior teaching fellow or teaching fellow posts are offered.

All of this will empower you to create a rich and rewarding student experience to do so, you will be adept at communicating to a diverse range of individuals from varying backgrounds and have specialist knowledge and understanding of race, multiculturalism, and diversity.

This role is for 35 hours a week, with a set working pattern determined by the Programme Leader.

About you

We are looking for a passionate motion designer to join our graphic communication lecturing team. Hands on working, guiding students to reach their potential will be at the heart of what you do. This is a chance for a vocational academic to indulge their passion, be an inspiring mentor and valued colleague, someone who brings something uniquely their own to the core team. This means you will need several strings to your bow.

Conversant in 2D/3D animation, video production, visual effects, and motion graphics, you will be teaching students the art and techniques of compositing, as well as industry and studio practices. You need to have proven working knowledge of industry standard software including Cinema 4D, Houdini and After Effects. Additional knowledge of experiential design and AR/VR environments is also desirable.

You will have a strong understanding of the history, context and future potential of motion design, be aware of design trends, industry standards and emerging technologies needed to stay ahead of the curve.

You will have experience in senior-level teaching, be at ease in a lecture theatre and seminar setting, and able to meet the needs of a large and diverse student body. You should have the ability to supervise and advise students on study skills, identifying their learning needs and defining learning objectives as well as assessing their work and providing constructive feedback. The candidates experience will dictate if the senior teaching fellow or teaching fellow posts are offered.

The TQIO research group is a dynamic team of researchers working on quantum imaging and photonics-based approach to quantum information science. The group is funded by the US Federal Agencies and has strong collaboration with experimental groups in EU and South America.

Starting date and duration: The appointment will preferably begin in Fall 2023 and be for one year, renewable for up to three years depending on performance and availability of funds. The starting date can be flexible for a suitable candidate.

Job description: The selected candidate will be involved in cutting-edge theoretical research projects focusing on 1) the study of entangled quantum states in various interferometric arrangements, and 2) application of quantum physics to push boundaries of imaging science further. The selected candidate is also expected to work jointly with the students in the group. A willingness and ability collaborate with experimental groups would be an advantage.

Qualification: The successful candidate should have a PhD or about to submit their thesis in Physics or a related field with background in one or more of classical and quantum optics, imaging with light, and quantum entanglement. Strong analytical and programming skills are required. Candidates with experience in high-dimensional entanglement are highly encouraged to apply.

Main duties of the job

Full time, with out of hours service/income from the regional GI bleed rota.Clinical activity includes out-patient clinics and endoscopy at SGH or QMH.The trainee will also participate in the out-of- hours GI bleed Rota across St George’s, Croydon and Epsom/St Helier’s Trusts which offers excellent experience and is paid a separate on-call supplement.Research/Education:Enrolment at St George’s University of London and Kingston University and working towards a Post Graduate Certificate in Healthcare research skills and methods or healthcare education. There will be opportunities to become involved in on-going research projects.Publishing: Experience of editing the quarterly journal Gastroenterology Today and working with the BMJ point of care team on the Ulcerative Colitis management guidelines. Opportunities for case reports/reviews/abstract publications. Advanced endoscopy training: The post will involve advanced endoscopy training (flexible to suite needs of successful applicant).
