Your ‘day to day’
The Manager Scientific Engagement is responsible for creating awareness and deeper understanding of PMI’s Smoke Free Products science specific to Canada and its Key Scientific Opinion Leaders (KSOLs). The Manager of Scientific Engagement is a member of the External Affairs Leadership Team and works collaboratively with the Managers of Government Relations and Sustainability, Communications, and Illicit Trade Prevention, to achieve the Tobacco Harm Reduction (THR) and regulatory objectives of PMI in Canada. The Manager of Scientific Engagement will work to build a Scientific Engagement Strategy, including identifying and preparing an engagement plan for KSOLs, planning events such as speaking engagements to disseminate science in support of THR and identifying strategic opportunities for Scientific Engagement in Canada. The Manager of Scientific Engagement is responsible for 2-3 Scientific Engagement Team members and reports to the Head of External Affairs

Major accountabilities

  • Oversee and lead the development and execution of scientific engagement strategies and plans to increase the understanding and interests within the Canadian scientific and medical community of PMI’s scientific approach and results.
  • Provide scientific engagement education and coaching to internal teams on overall PMI Science, scientific engagement strategy and rules of engagement. This includes appropriate scientific training, including but not limited to the senior management, external affairs, communications, marketing & commercial team, and scientific consultants.
  • Identify and build a network of key scientific opinion leaders, developing, executing, and monitoring engagement plans in collaboration with regional and market External Affairs as well as global scientific engagement.
  • Proactively communicate company’s views and positions in support of tobacco harm reduction, acting as a spokesperson on scientific matters as needed.
  • Manage a team of 2-3 direct reports, including setting objectives, providing coaching and direction, conducting performance management reviews, and ensuring completion of training on PMI policies.

Who we’re looking for

  • Experience in life sciences or pharmaceutical industry, ideally in Medical Affairs e.g. Medical Communications, Medical Science Liaison or Medical Information.
  • Served at a management level, including leading complex cross-functional projects among multi-disciplinary stakeholders in R&D, law, corporate/regulatory affairs, communications, sales, marketing, planning and/or operations. International experience, preferably coming from multinational companies is, as well as public speaking/media engagement is a strong advantage.

WUSC is a Canadian non-profit organization working to create a better world for all young people. We bring together a diverse network of students, volunteers, schools, governments, and businesses who share this vision. Together, we develop solutions in education, economic opportunities, and empowerment to overcome inequality and exclusion for youth around the world, particularly young women and young refugees. WUSC currently works in 25 countries across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the Caribbean, with an annual budget of approximately CAD $40 million. We have over 90 staff in our Ottawa office, and over 200 people overseas implementing 16 development projects in collaboration with donors such as Global Affairs Canada, the UK Department for International Development (DFID), the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the MasterCard Foundation, and the African Development Bank.

THE ROLE

Under the supervision of the Manager, Public Engagement and Manager, Canadian Programming, Durable Solutions for Refugees, the Youth Engagement Officer plays a key role in the mobilization of WUSC’s 100+ campus-based and student-led Local Committees across the country to deliver public engagement campaigns, activities, and events on their campuses and in their communities.

Communication and Digital Engagement

  • Coordinate communications channels (e.g. social media, email) designed to raise awareness and motivate Local Committee members to stay involved
  • Participate in the development of electronic resources to support WUSC Local Committees, including content for blogs, and web pages
  • Develop written content and support the dissemination of regional and cross-Canada communications
  • Translate and/or facilitate translation (English and French) of materials, documents, and correspondence with WUSC’s bilingual Local Committee network

Local Committee Mobilization and Training

  • Coordinate the development of a mobilization strategy for Local Committee members to deliver public engagement activities on their campuses and in their communities, in collaboration with the public engagement and campus teams
  • Support the design, development, and organization of training activities and budgets for Local Committee members, in person and online, in collaboration with the public engagement and campus team
  • Prepare and deliver training sessions for Local Committee members in both official languages
  • Coordinate the logistics of training sessions

Public Engagement Campaigns, Activities, and Events

  • Coordinate the development of Local Committee-specific public engagement campaigns, in collaboration with the public engagement and campus teams
  • Develop and implement dissemination strategy for campaigns for Local Committees, in collaboration with the public engagement team
  • Work with Local Committees to adapt campaign materials to their campus
  • Provide one-on-one support for Local Committee engagement activities, offering guidance and answering questions as needed
  • Oversee requests and allocation of funds for Local Committee public engagement activities
  • Review and provide advice on promotional materials developed by Local Committees to promote their visibility on campus to ensure brand alignment and design best practices are being followed. Review campaigns developed by Local Committees
  • Collaborate closely with other public engagement colleagues to amplify public engagement activities of Local Committees through corporate communications channels to corporate communications audiences
  • Collaborate with other organizations present on Canadian campuses and in communities to participate in campus-wide and community-wide public engagement campaigns and activities
  • Be a spokesperson for WUSC on campus at Local Committee events, as required

Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Support the evaluation of training delivery and training needs and evolve the training program to respond appropriately.
  • Support Local Committee members to track the activities, reach, and impact of their public engagement efforts, in collaboration with the public engagement team.
  • Provide public engagement, training and social media engagement results for relevant monthly, quarterly or annual reports to funders.
  • Contribute, in collaboration with the public engagement team, to improving the strategies and monitoring tools for public engagement results
  • Lead on capturing results of audience surveys for Local Committees events and training

THE PROFILE

Education

University degree in global development, communications or related field (or equivalent working experience)

Experience

  • At least three years of work experience working in public engagement and youth programing
  • At least one or two years of work experience designing and delivery training targeting youth
  • A minimum of two years in project management in the area of public engagement or communications
  • Experience as an international volunteer or working in global development
  • Demonstrated experience with creation of dynamic tools and resources for diverse audiences
  • Experience in organizing large-scale events and workshops, virtually and in-person
  • Proven experience of recruiting, training and supervising staff and/or volunteers
  • Experience in community-based advocacy

Competencies

  • Adaptable and flexible; able to work independently and collaboratively in a team in a virtual environment

Reporting to the IGSR Director, the Program Director for Government Services and Engagement is responsible for performing and administering applied research and technical assistance projects to enhance policies, operations, and outcomes in the delivery of public services. Job Summary: Lead on oversight and control of PRA compliance matters, manage and oversee Beazley regulatory relationships and engagement, oversee UK and EU compliance requirements. Ensure effective oversight of all PRA compliance matters is in place and provide a framework and structure that supports regulatory compliance across the Group as it grows in size and complexity. Ensure similar compliance structures in place for other regulatory requirements and relationships. Key Responsibilities

§ Regulatory Engagement: Primarily responsible for managing, developing, maintaining and ensuring there continue to be strong and effective regulatory relationships with key regulators, including the PRA, Lloyd’s of London, Central Bank of Ireland. Responding and delivering key PRA requirements and managing the PRA regulatory cycle, including actions arising from PSM Letter, monthly regulatory supervisory meetings, ad hoc regulatory meetings, general PRA requests, thematic reviews, questionnaires, discussion or consultation papers. Supporting Group Head of Compliance on related regulatory issues and workstreams, including with supporting internal senior stakeholders and Executives with regulatory interactions. Manage deliverables from the PRA PSM letter, targeted regulatory reviews, thematic reviews and information requests. Provide oversight of regulatory returns processes to support their timely and accurate submission.

§ PRA compliance subject matter expert: Ensure compliance with PRA requirements, and other relevant legislation. Liaise with internal stakeholders and senior management to support the group to achieve growth ambitions effectively and compliantly. Support internal stakeholders on issues arising relevant to the PRA. Design and conduct training on relevant regulatory matters.

§ Horizon scanning: Monitor and review PRA and other relevant regulators’ insurance legislation, initiatives and proposals which may impact on the firm’s businesses.

§ Regulatory change: Manage compliance and regulatory projects, including assessing the impact of new legislation and regulations on the relevant legal entities and preparing for their implementation. Support First Line of Defence risk owners in implementing frameworks, policies, procedures, processes and systems.

§ Stakeholder management: Build effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, supporting the Group Head of Compliance and other parts of the Compliance function. Liaise closely with Compliance Managers supporting Lloyd’s and CBI relationship.

§ Governance and assurance: Prepare internal reporting and present to boards and committees of Beazley entities. Develop and document MI and procedures to ensure effective governance within the Compliance function.

§ Strategy, leadership and management: Provide strategic-level expertise to senior management. Support Group Head of Compliance with developing and implementing Compliance Function strategy and compliance plan, including resourcing requirements. Identify and implement automated solutions to continually enhance compliance processes. Direct line management responsibilities. Guide and support development of team members, maintaining an inclusive, proactive culture.

§ Risk Management: Develop and maintain MI to support compliance KRIs within risk management framework, working to ensure Beazley acts within defined regulatory risk appetite. Design and implement relevant compliance risk assessments.

§ Brand champion: Build Beazley’s brand with the PRA and other relevant regulatory authorities as a well-run, ethical and sustainable company. Representing Beazley at relevant insurance market forums, committees and events.

Role Responsibilities

The main areas of responsibility for this position are:

1. Public Agency Governance Policy:

Government-wide implementation and review of policy and legislative frameworks to promote a consistent approach to governance.

Accountability and evaluation: enhance transparency through a coordinated approach for public agency compliance, reporting, accountability, and evaluation activities.

2. Integrated Policy:

Provide ongoing, strategic and day-to-day support and advice to departments on the implementation of the government’s legislative and policy framework for agencies.

Apply a system thinking approach, in particular the identification of impacts, interconnections and/or unintended consequences across policy areas to identify innovative and effective policy approaches/alternatives.

Anticipate stakeholder reactions, and proactively plan to manage issues and build relationships.

Conduct e-scanning and jurisdictional scanning on governance issues and trends.

3. Accountability and Evaluation:

Build collaborative relationships with departments and other stakeholders to ensure alignment with government priorities and promote consistent reporting, effective accountability mechanisms and rigorous evaluation activities.

Lead and coordinate, as appropriate, the process for reviewing agencies every seven years.

Develop and implement processes to ensure compliance with APAGA and the Policy.

Advise department and public agencies on the review and evaluation of governance documents, such as mandate and roles documents, codes of conduct and board member evaluations.

Work collaboratively with departments and provide expert advice on the establishment, review, and dissolution of agencies.

Lead the development and refresh of document templates to support consistent reporting, effective accountability mechanisms and rigorous evaluation activities.

4. General Activities:

Respond in a timely manner to inquiries from public agencies and departments related to governance practices and legislation.

Inform and advise the Director about sensitive issues and associated risks to ensure the success of processes, frameworks and legislation and recommend needed changes.

As project manager, lead the completion of key policy and legislation deliverables, based on a thorough understanding of stakeholder perspectives and the policy environment.

Support and provide cover-off for the Director and branch colleagues as required.

Manage and oversee the Public Agency Database, PAS Inbox, and monthly reporting process by working closely with Branch Policy Analysts.

Ensure that PAS initiatives, policies, programs, and services are developed, implemented, and aligned with broader Government of Alberta (GoA) policies and strategies.

Qualifications

University graduation in a related field (business, social sciences or equivalent) plus four years related experience; or equivalent as described. Project management experience and education is preferred.

A related two-year diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution and six years related experience;

Asset:

Strong understanding of the workings of government, including the decision-making process, agency governance, and the appointment process. This includes knowledge and understanding of the political environment and its implications, and the ability to maintain objectivity.

Role Responsibilities

The Royal Alberta Museum is actively seeking a dynamic and accomplished candidate to assume a leadership role within the newly established Community Engagement department. In direct collaboration with the Director of Engagement and Education, the Head of Community Engagement will play a pivotal role in cultivating relationships with diverse stakeholders, formulating inclusive engagement policies, and championing representation within the Museum.

Leveraging substantial experience in the field of community engagement, the incumbent for this position will engage within focused community groups and internally within the Museum, to establish meaningful relationships that contribute significantly to exhibitions, programs, research, collections, and overarching networks. The Community Engagement unit will strategically employ the museum’s resources to educate and inform a diverse audience on matters that directly impact their daily lives.

In alignment with the broader organizational strategy, the Head of Community Engagement will collaborate closely with the Director of Engagement and Education (and other Executive), as well as their colleagues, to position community engagement as a central and integral practice within the Royal Alberta Museum. We welcome candidates with the vision and capability to contribute to this significant initiative.

Your main responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Engagement and relationship building with the diverse communities of Alberta, working to include them in RAM operations in a meaningful way.
  • Collaborate with targeted communities, community service organizations, non-for-profits, professional associations, and other appropriate parties in the development of ongoing engagement strategies and RAM operations.
  • Foster connections to the GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums) sector in Edmonton and Alberta on behalf of the Museum and the Government of Alberta.
  • Assist with the implementation of reconciliation activities across RAM.
  • Work to foster relationships with communities that do not feel represented or connected to RAM, including work to support accessibility and access for disabled and neurodivergent visitors.
  • Providing recommendations in the areas of diversity and inclusion, through community connections and knowledge of best practices to Museum staff and projects as required.
  • Work with colleagues across the Ministry and other departments to ensure inclusion practices are in alignment with Government priorities.
  • Work with the Learning team, Curatorial team, and other relevant staff to provide contacts, relationships and resources from diverse communities and act as a bridge and relationship builder for RAM projects and public facing products.
  • Support exhibit planning for permanent, traveling, and in-house feature exhibitions through the lens of Community Engagement.
  • Supervision and administration of the Community Engagement staff and department.

Through the Community Engagement unit and the leadership of this vitial position, RAM will build stronger and more trusting relationships with various public organizations and communities. Through these relationships, RAM will be better able to tell the stories of all Albertans and increase the public’s understanding of historical and contemporary issues facing diverse peoples across the province. The Head, Community Engagement will be an energetic, empathetic individual with a demonstrated ability to build connections and work toward mutually beneficial outcomes and relationships.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • B.A. in a relevant discipline (e.g., Sociology, Community Engagement or Development, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, International Development) and a minimum of four years’ related experience, plus demonstrated community engagement including direct work in communities and activities connected to justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion or working directly with/in minority communities or equivalent.
  • A solid understanding of the theories and best practices regarding community engagement as applied to operations (such as exhibits, programs, interpretation, and research) as well as hands-on experience with the creation and implementation of engagement strategies.
  • Demonstrated history of working in community settings on behalf of an organization and leading community projects from ideation to implementation.
  • Ability to facilitate and lead community engagement workshops, work with Advisory Boards and both unofficial and official community groups.
  • Excellent ability to lead teams and create productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including mediation and communications skills related to working with diverse communities.
  • Ability to successfully work in a politically sensitive environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Understanding and knowledge of diverse First Nations, Métis and Inuit history, cultures, traditions, beliefs, and protocols is an asset.
  • The ability to navigate and articulate, lead, and facilitate conversations, analyze, and apply communities’ learnings in a government environment is an asset.
  • French language or additional language fluency is an asset.

Days of work are Monday to Friday.

Occasional weekend and evening work may be required, as well as occasional travel.
