Canadian Employment Connections (CEC) is a free pre-arrival employment program that offers virtual services to prepare internationally trained professionals for the Canadian job market. The program brings together ACCES Employment’s expertise and vast network of Canadian employers in the following six sectors: Engineering, Financial Services, Human Resources, Leadership, Sales and Marketing and Supply Chain. This fully online program requires the Employer Liaison to be proficient in different online platforms and comfortable tracking, monitoring, and maintaining data to ensure all client targets and outcomes are met.

The Employer Liaison is mainly responsible for the creation of employment opportunities for ACCES clients. The Employer Liaison in this position works alongside the ACCES Employment Consulting team and will also work closely with all community partner agencies and employers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop and implement marketing and outreach strategy to employers

Liaise with community professionals and employers to create competitive jobs and employment opportunities

Monitor all placements, oversee training plan development and conduct on-going follow-up to ensure successful employment outcomes for program participants

Integrate work with all ACCES staff, in particular with the Employment Consultant team

Provide employment preparation and employability group sessions and individual resource centre support when required

Provide culturally sensitive employment services including intake and assessment, one-to-one and group employment counselling and referrals when required

Arrange job fairs and networking events

Other duties as assigned by Management

Qualifications and Experience:

Business Degree or equivalent

3 or more years’ experience in job development, employer outreach, employment counseling and/or recruitment

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Understanding of labour market information and trends

Experience in the not-for-profit sector and/or employment sector is preferred

Demonstrated ability to work and co-operate in a team

Strong organizational, planning and time management skills

Able to facilitate group activities

Effective networking skills

Experienced and highly proficient working in an MS Office environment and with online virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom, Brazen, and Microsoft Teams.

Familiarity with online platforms and database management programs (ex. Salesforce)

Knowledge of/experience with internationally trained professionals, new immigrants and working with employers is a strong asset

Experience in business development, sales, recruitment, and B2B recruitment is considered an asset

Flexible to work occasional evenings and weekend hours

We are currently on a hybrid work schedule, working in the office and from home. This hybrid work schedule is subject to change based on business requirements.

The Engineering Career Centre in the Schulich School of Engineering is currently seeking a Full-time Temporary Relief Employer Specialist for approximately 6 months.

This position reports to the Manager of the Engineering Career Centre. This position involves frequent professional contact in person, via email and by phone with over 200 unique industry contacts per year. The industry contact includes both local, national and international employer relationships and involves professionals at all levels including front-line supervising engineers, human resources professionals to senior executives of organizations

The primary purpose of this role is to secure postings and work experience (relevant to engineering) opportunities for students to further the goals of students success and allow students to participate in the Internship program which advances the reputation of the Schulich School of Engineering Career Centre.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Employer Focused Accountabilities

  • Developing and maintaining a network of industry contacts.
  • Actively marketing to and recruiting new employers to be partners in the Engineering Career Centre.
  • Providing advice, when requested, on engineering content of job postings and relevance/suitability for an engineering student (internship/summer position).
  • Responsible for recruiting sufficient positions for the internship program, to fill the desired interest from the engineering students.
  • Maintain knowledge of skills requirements and expectations of key employers (technical & behavioral); industry market segments and opportunities available; and potential career paths for new grad engineers.
  • Maintaining relationships with existing employers in the program, contact requirements to be established (quarterly) and this includes following up with employers to either ensure that their needs are met through our process or provide alternative suggestions to them, and gathering feedback to be used to improve the process.
  • Annual job site visits with employers to gather supervisor feedback, potentially student visit and ensure that employer requests are responded to promptly.

Faculty Focused Accountabilities

  • Create partnerships with the Academic Faculty who can assist in leading to industry contacts.
  • Actively participate with on-campus career services to stay abreast of new developments and trainings offered.
  • Familiarity with the Schulich School of Engineering programs (currently CPE, ECE, MME, CIV, GEO) and centres (CEERE, Pipeline, Project Management, BME, CBRE) to create industry placements for undergraduate students.
  • Technical expertise on the Careerlink system (Orbis) to ensure tracking and data analysis is required.
  • Assisting with all aspects of the Engineering Career Centre expansion plan and actively contributing to the communication and marketing material for both internal and external stakeholders.

Engineering Career Centre (ECC) Accountabilities

  • Working with the ECC Advisor, provide instruction when required, on successful job search strategies to maximize student success.
  • Providing feedback on training and acting as back-up for ECC Advisor when necessary to deliver training on career preparedness.
  • Reviewing the response to job postings, working with employer feedback to support ECC Advisor ensuring postings are noticed/responded to.
  • In conjunction with the ECC Advisor, provide a professional engineer’s perspective on any unique challenges so that the ECC Advisor can coach and mentor interns with unique challenges (i.e.: academic probation, workplace issues, etc.) and/or assisting displaced interns to be re-assigned or re-integrated to another workplace or to the academic setting.
  • Maintain knowledge of the international internship placement process (work visa process, communication practices, etc.); and electronic data sharing practices (i.e.: linking to databases, posting information to websites).

Communication Accountabilities

  • Review marketing and communication material to provide updates, suggestions as the ECC expands in career preparedness.
  • Work with the ECC Business Coordinator to provide feedback on survey questions, review survey from employers for the purpose of process improvement.
  • Provide suggestions or recommendations to optimize ECC program and process, undertake new initiatives based on direction from the Leadership within the Schulich School of Engineering.
  • Reporting of weekly activities and statistics at departmental meeting while contributing to the ECC program metrics.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A degree in engineering is required, as well as a minimum of 8 years professional engineering experience in industry.
  • A Professional Engineering (PEng) designation is strongly preferred, as is a working knowledge of the APEGA professional designation application process.
  • Specific experience of more than 5 years managing or mentoring engineering in training or new graduates is considered a strong asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with the engineering program and specific knowledge of engineering curriculum and all disciplines of engineering, as well as awareness of industries employing engineers is critical to success in this position.
  • The ability to act as an ambassador, interact with both students and individuals at all levels of organizations, and positively contribute to the Engineering Career Centre team is important.
  • The ability to interview and draw information out of others, analyze information quickly, and think creatively to resolve problems or act on or develop opportunities is required.
  • Demonstrated (5+ years experience) of professional communication, (email, letter, in-person and presentation skills) is required.
  • The ability to connect independently (cold calling) with industry stakeholders and demonstrated comfort and skill in presenting in front of employers and students is a valuable asset.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and work with the Faculty to advance the Engineering Career Centre.

Qualifications and Experience:

Able to facilitate group activities

Effective networking skills

The Talent Acquisition team globally hires approx. 12,000 to 14,000 associates a year across sales, marketing, engineering, clinical, functional, and manufacturing roles within more than 70 countries. As the North American Employer Brand Specialist within the team, you will help further build out BD’s Employer Brand and Recruitment Marketing efforts to attract and retain top talent to the organization in North America.

Key Responsibilities:

Support Employer Brand needs in the region by working closely with TABPs to understand the recruiting and talent attraction needs across various segments and units.

Proactively identify approaches to promote the BD Employer Brand within the North American market; maintain a steady cadence and consistency in communicating what we offer as an employer of choice.

Identify, gather, and write associate stories to share what it is like working at BD to populate the BD.com careers site, social media or other marketing channels. Collaborate often with Corp Communications for alignment.

Collaborate with TA and HR colleagues from across the globe in supporting attraction strategies and tactics – at the regional levels, including IDE&E activities and external partnerships.

Plan, oversee, and manage the creation of new employer brand materials, assets, toolkits, and campaigns.

Partner with the wider talent acquisition team to leverage the broad array of tools, resources, and technology accessible to attract and secure talent, including emerging and trending technologies and platforms.

Work with Team to evaluate core Employer Brand metrics, including identifying and establishing for ad hoc projects and areas of focus.

Experience and Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years’ experience in employer brand or recruitment marketing. Experience working cross-regionally or globally with teams, a plus.

High school diploma or GED required

Must have strong attention to detail and strong relationship/partnerships building skills.

Must have excellent writing and editing skills for short-form (careers site) and long-form (for candidate emails and newsletters).

Proficiency in using Microsoft Word suite, including Word, PPT, Teams, as well as Photoshop, Canva, and other graphic design tools – a plus.

Must be a team player with the ability to move quickly on an array of projects, as requested, while exhibiting good judgment in a fast-paced, growth environment.

Results-focused, with strong analytical and reporting skills and the motivation to drive for improvements. Must embrace a growth mindset.
