  • Lead the creation and execution of long-term and short-term goals for economic empowerment programs for women and gender-diverse people, youth and LGBTQIA+ people aligned with YWCA Hamilton’s values;
  • Collaborate with the executive team to integrate economic development priorities into the organization’s overall objectives, communications, government relations and advocacy;
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to senior leaders overseeing employment & training programs, STEM programs, social enterprise programs, entrepreneurship programs, and Centre for Innovation;
  • Design, develop, and manage innovative programs that address economic disparities and barriers faced by women and marginalized communities and helps them elevate their professional achievements;
  • Develop initiatives with the broader community to address systemic barriers to gender equity and career advancement;
  • Develop and implement strategies for creating networks of stakeholders invested in advancing women’s economic inclusion including but not limited to YWCA participants, mentors, corporate partners;
  • Ensure programs are responsive to the unique needs of diverse populations, considering factors such as race, ethnicity, socio-economic background, citizenship, sexual orientation, and gender identity;
  • Monitor programs, projects, advocacy, and research to ensure effectiveness and outcomes, collecting and analysing data to measure impact and identify areas for improvement;
  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with different levels of government, corporate entities, and community organizations to leverage resources, funding, and expertise;
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including allies with equity deserving groups, to identify opportunities for collaboration and advocate for systems and policy changes that promote economic equality and inclusion and support reduction of poverty and advancement of women;
  • Identify, secure, and report on funding opportunities, grants, and sponsorships to support program expansion and sustainability align with YWCA Hamilton’s priorities and programs and responsible for reporting to funders;
  • Develop, monitor, and report on the annual programs departmental budget with input and support from the management team;
  • Translates the YWCA Hamilton’s strategic plans into defined operational plans;
  • Integrate economic development programs, as appropriate, with complimentary YWCA Hamilton programs to enhance service coordination and provide continuity for participants;
  • Strives for responsible and sustainable planning in program development and operations to reduce environmental harm and consider the impact of climate change on clients,community and services;
  • As a member of the senior leadership team, participates in strategic planning, budget planning and policy and operational decisions in the long-term interest of the organization with attention to federal and provincial laws and associated regulations;
  • Ensures the operational growth of the organization through program expansion, collaborations, and partnerships;
  • As a member of the senior leadership team, models and demonstrates strong leadership behaviours;
  • Nurtures and forms meaningful internal and external working relationships and partnerships;
  • Ensures that programs maximize customer service, satisfy stakeholder requirements, incorporate external regulatory agency requirements, and serve YWCA Hamilton interests;
  • Ensures the development of all policies and procedures related to the effective, efficient, and legal delivery of departmental programs;
  • Ensures compliance with all external regulatory agencies and partners (e.g., human rights, employment law, labour contractual obligations, privacy legislation, reporting requirements);
  • Meets financial goals; resolving issues by monitoring and taking corrective action;
  • Directly manage and coach a team of 4 (four) senior level employees;
  • Demonstrates and models strong leadership behaviours as a member of the YWCA leadership team;
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality when working with sensitive client, funder, and employee information;
  • Fosters a safe and healthy work environment; ensures employees comply with health & safety standards that meet or exceed legislated requirements;
  • Represents the YWCA Hamilton and always maintains outstanding public relations skills and a professional image in the community;
  • Understands emerging trends, leading practices, industry professional standards;
  • Supports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision and values.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Works a standard 37.5-hour work week.
  • Occasional evenings and weekends and travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a 4-year post-secondary education or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in a not-for-profit organization in human or social services, social innovation or economic development.
  • Minimum 5 to 7 years’ management experience with demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in leadership development, budget development and management.
  • Demonstrated public speaking and community development skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead with a feminist, anti-racist/anti-oppressive perspective.
  • Ability to make decisions through a social and environmental sustainability lens.
  • Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police check or willingness to obtain at own cost.
  • Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings. Travel may be required.
  • Bilingual English/French or other language an asset.
