The at the invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Applied Econometrics. Candidates whose primary field is Econometrics are sought. While we do not have preferences on the type of econometrics (e.g., times series or micro-econometrics), the ideal candidate would work on both theoretical and applied econometrics questions/issues. The candidate must have a world-class research program and an ambitious research agenda. The holder of the Chair will implement a creative and independent research program that is based on external research funding and will be actively involved with graduate student training and education. The Chair will be appointed to the , and will be expected to teach and supervise graduate students in this unit.

Located on the unceded territory of Anishinaabe Algonquin people, in the heart of the nation’s capital, the University of Ottawa is one of Canada’s top ten research-intensive universities and is recognized as the first and largest bilingual university in North America. It offers its 47,000 students and 5,500 employees a dynamic and stimulating environment where research and knowledge are fundamental to all aspects of university life. The University is situated in close proximity to the Parliament of Canada, multiple national agencies including Statistics Canada, as well various provincial and municipal agencies.

Tier 1 Chairs, tenable for seven years and renewable once, are for outstanding researchers acknowledged by their peers as world leaders in their fields. For each Tier 1 Chair, the institution receives $200,000 annually for seven years. Nominees for Tier 1 Chair positions must be full professors or associate professors who are expected to be promoted to the full professor level within one or two years of the nomination. Alternatively, if they come from outside the academic sector, nominees must possess the necessary qualifications to be appointed at these levels. New CRC nominees are also eligible for infrastructure support from the (CFI) to help acquire state-of-the-art equipment essential to their work.

Skills requirements:

Education : Ph.D. in economics or a related discipline.

Required Qualifications: Outstanding independent research achievements in the area of econometrics, a solid record with respect to teaching and training of students at the graduate level, a strong record of external research funding, excellent communication skills in either English or French. Active knowledge of the other official language in Canada is a requirement for tenure. English-French bilingualism is an asset.

Rank and salary:

Regular tenure-track academic appointment in the Faculty of Social Sciences. The salary range for a full professor starts at $118,864 and goes up to $207,511 (based on the May 1, 2023 scale of the collective agreement). Salaries are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
