Nurse & Midwifery Guide to Working in the UK –

OVERVIEW

Treats patients who are sick or injured, gives advice and emotional support to patients and their families, provides doctor assistance, and takes care of patient paperwork as per departmental needs and service.

To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team. The duties will include all tasks normally undertaken by an experienced RGN and in addition any roles agreed between the nurse and the doctors as appropriate, having regard to current training. The focus of the role is both the delivery of evidence-based practice for patients presenting with long term conditions and the provision of preventative health care to the practice population. As an autonomous practitioner the nurse is responsible for the care delivered, demonstrating critical thinking and skills in clinical decision-making in the management of patients. They will work collaboratively within the general practice team and the wider community teams to meet the needs of patients, support the delivery of policy and procedures and provide leadership where required.

DUTIES (guideline only)

  • Provide care to patients and residents based on their care plan outlined by their doctor
  • Accurately monitor and record observations on patients’ conditions
  • Monitor patients’ diet and exercise
  • Prepare patients and assist with treatments, surgery, or exams as needed
  • Participate in clinical improvements and offer ideas on clinical and non-clinical policies
  • Assist with the investigation of complaints by patients or family members
  • Manage stocks of supplies
  • Ensure storage and disposal of medication is carried out according to policy
  • Maintain accurate records of residents care, financial procedures, and medication administration
  • Identify care planning needs
  • Carry out risk assessment
  • Record patients’ vital signs and medical information

  • Assist with tests and evaluations
  • Carry out routine investigations

NURSE SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Essential:

  • At Least 1 to 8 years Year’s Nursing Experience on Band 6
  • Current registration with NMC
  • Educated to diploma level
  • Qualified practitioner / completed a minimum of one recognised level 6 Autonomous Practice Module relating to the diagnosis and management of either injuries or illness
  • Post Registration experience Good IT skills – ability to utilise appropriate electronic systems to accurately record data.
  • Ability to work autonomously without supervision. Ability to meet deadlines and to work under pressure.
  • Ability to adapt to the demands of a constantly changing environment.
  • Aware of accountability of own role and other roles in a nurse led service.
  • Knowledge of health promotion strategies and awareness of clinical governance issues within primary care.
  • Knowledge of patient group directions and associated policy.
  • Knowledge of the NMC Code of Conduct
  • Change-management skills and ability to support patients to change lifestyle.
  • Communication skills, both written and verbal. The ability to work as a member of a large multidisciplinary team
  • The ability to communicate and interact with the public in a discreet and sensitive manner, recognising their needs for alternative methods and styles of communication Enthusiasm and a sense of humour

SALARY

The salary is based on the national salary scale.

A Fully qualified nurses start on salaries of £31,365 rising to £37,890 on Band 6 of the NHS Agenda for Change Pay Rates. Salaries in London attract a high-cost area supplement.

OVERTIME

Payments for unsocial hours are made to NHS staff

OVERVIEW

Applications are invited for a Registrar / LAS SpR / Speciality Doctor / StR4+ in Psychiatry – Substance Misuse. The post will commence as soon as possible (ASAP). This post offers the opportunity to develop general registrar level skills and possibly more advanced skills for those interested and those doctors with the appropriate experience to do so.

GENERAL DUTIES (guideline only)

· Appropriate clinical responsibility for the care of patients delegated by the consultant to his/ her charge. Co responsibility for the proper functioning of the department Psychiatry – Substance Misuse, including the supervision of more junior medical staff.

· Participation in the Registrar on call rota and to provide cover in exceptional circumstances for colleague’s absence.

· Attending clinics and assessing patients and formulating treatment decisions seeking advice from the consultant as appropriate.

· Attending sessions with the consultant and assisting or performing procedures as appropriate.

· Running of wards with consultant cover on site during the day, consultant off site after hours.

· Participation in clinical audit.

· Attendance at clinical meetings and case conferences as appropriate.

· Working within a multidisciplinary team.

· Teaching and training staff in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriate.

· Communication with other team members as appropriate.

· Co-ordinating appropriate medical disciplines concerned with care for your speciality and communicating appropriately with general practitioners (GP’s) and community agencies.

· Assessment, care and treatment of patients presenting acutely to the speciality and referred to the speciality.

· Conducting daily ward rounds on inpatients under the consultant’s care, supervising the junior doctors whilst the patient is in their care.

· In conjunction with the admitting clinical teams and the wider health economy to develop and implement integrated Psychiatry – Substance Misuse pathways throughout the hospital / trust.

· Participation in relevant audit for the department and quality assurance procedures.

· Abide by the clinical & Corporate Governance policies of the hospital/ trust.

· To make sure that the guidance from the GMC (General Medical Council) on Good Medical Practise is at the heart of your clinical practise.

· To keep up to date with Psychiatry – Substance Misuse knowledge by Continuous Medical Education in the best interest of the patient and your personal development.

· Although a timetable will be provided, you will be expected to be flexible, in the interest of patient care and to meet the needs of the department as decided by the general manager and clinical lead for your department – Psychiatry – Substance Misuse.

· To contribute to the wider corporate and organisational needs of the hospital / trust as appropriate.

In addition doctors will be required to:

· Adhere to hospital / trust procedures e.g. Health and Safety at Work, Equal Opportunities policies etc.

· Work to the hospital/ trusts values- Put Patients First, Take Ownership, Respect Others, Be Positive.

· Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing needs of the job, to seek medical education as appropriate and encourage and support staff development and training as appropriate with your grade.

· Attend Statutory, essential and mandatory training.

· Respect the confidentiality of all matters relating to their employment and other members of staff. All Members of staff are required to comply with the requirements of the data protection act 1998.

JOB PLAN

To be discussed with the Clinical Lead of Psychiatry and departmental service manager – all job plans are made with the agreement of the doctor and needs of the Psychiatry – Substance Misuse department.

SALARY

The salary is based on the national salary scale as outlined in the Medical and Dental Terms and Conditions – £45,124 to £77,519 per annum not inclusive of extra hours, these are paid in addition to basic salary.

PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The post-holder will be required to keep himself / herself up-to-date with their relevant area of practise and be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the hospital / trust / GMC.

The trust supports the requirements for continuing professional development as set down by the Royal College’s and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities, this is also the same for GMC Revalidation.

STUDY LEAVE

Professional or study leave is granted for purposes approved by the trust and includes time off for study, research, teaching, examining, taking examinations, visiting clinics external (if required) to the hospital / trust and attending professional conferences. Study leave allowance is a maximum of 10 days per annum.

OVERVIEW

Applications are invited for a Registrar / LAS SpR / Speciality Doctor / StR4+ in General Radiology. The post will commence as soon as possible (ASAP). This post offers the opportunity to develop general registrar level skills and possibly more advanced skills for those interested and those doctors with the appropriate experience to do so.

GENERAL DUTIES (guideline only)

· Appropriate clinical responsibility for the care of patients delegated by the consultant to his/ her charge. Co responsibility for the proper functioning of the Radiology department, including the supervision of more junior medical staff.

· Participation in the Registrar on call rota and to provide cover in exceptional circumstances for colleague’s absence.

· Attending clinics and assessing patients and formulating treatment decisions seeking advice from the consultant as appropriate.

· Attending sessions with the consultant and assisting or performing procedures as appropriate.

· Running of wards with consultant cover on site during the day, consultant off site after hours.

· Participation in clinical audit.

· Attendance at clinical meetings and case conferences as appropriate.

· Working within a multidisciplinary team.

· Teaching and training staff in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriate.

· Communication with other team members as appropriate.

· Co-ordinating appropriate medical disciplines concerned with care for your speciality and communicating appropriately with general practitioners (GP’s) and community agencies.

· Assessment, care and treatment of patients presenting acutely to the speciality and referred to the speciality.

· Conducting daily ward rounds on inpatients under the consultant’s care, supervising the junior doctors whilst the patient is in their care.

· In conjunction with the admitting clinical teams and the wider health economy to develop and implement integrated Radiology pathways throughout the hospital / trust.

· Participation in relevant audit for the department and quality assurance procedures.

· Abide by the clinical & Corporate Governance policies of the hospital/ trust.

· To make sure that the guidance from the GMC (General Medical Council) on Good Medical Practise is at the heart of your clinical practise.

· To keep up to date with Radiology knowledge by Continuous Medical Education in the best interest of the patient and your personal development.

· Although a timetable will be provided, you will be expected to be flexible, in the interest of patient care and to meet the needs of the department as decided by the general manager and clinical lead for your department – General Radiology.

· To contribute to the wider corporate and organisational needs of the hospital / trust as appropriate.

In addition doctors will be required to:

· Adhere to hospital / trust procedures e.g. Health and Safety at Work, Equal Opportunities policies etc.

· Work to the hospital/ trusts values- Put Patients First, Take Ownership, Respect Others, Be Positive.

· Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing needs of the job, to seek medical education as appropriate and encourage and support staff development and training as appropriate with your grade.

· Attend Statutory, essential and mandatory training.

· Respect the confidentiality of all matters relating to their employment and other members of staff. All Members of staff are required to comply with the requirements of the data protection act 1998.

JOB PLAN

To be discussed with the Clinical Lead of Radiology Services and departmental service manager – all job plans are made with the agreement of the doctor and needs of the General Radiology department.

SALARY

The salary is based on the national salary scale as outlined in the Medical and Dental Terms and Conditions – £45,124 to £77,519 per annum not inclusive of extra hours, these are paid in addition to basic salary.

PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The post-holder will be required to keep himself / herself up-to-date with their relevant area of practise and be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the hospital / trust / GMC.

The trust supports the requirements for continuing professional development as set down by the Royal College’s and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities, this is also the same for GMC Revalidation.

STUDY LEAVE

Professional or study leave is granted for purposes approved by the trust and includes time off for study, research, teaching, examining, taking examinations, visiting clinics external (if required) to the hospital / trust and attending professional conferences. Study leave allowance is a maximum of 10 days per annum.

Overview

General Duties- guideline only

Clinical

The successful applicant/s will be expected to:

  • maintain the hand service
  • be an integral part of the major trauma service to help specifically with wound cover and emergency vascular cover

This post will form part of a nucleus of plastic surgeons providing 24 hour care for the trauma centre.

They will also ensure that timely surgery, medical review and discharge takes place. They will provide clinical leadership to a team.

The weekly program is planned around an average of 10 sessions, which will include theatre, direct clinical care (elective and trauma clinics and theatre, on call, ward rounds and patient related administration) and supporting professional activities (SPAs).

The consultant job plan will be subject to review during the initial six months period and again at 12 months to help streamline the development of the hand service. The successful candidate will thus need to be flexible in order to allow capacity and demand to be managed. A detailed job plan will be available for discussion.

The successful candidate will be fellowship trained in hand surgery, adding to and complementing the existing members of the department. The posts (trauma and elective) will be delivered in an Orthoplastic model from the hospital site and the immediate vicinity to ensure timely response to soft tissue vascular emergency associated with major trauma.

The Regional Care Alliance will be the employer for the appointment and will issue the contract of employment.

Job Plan

Regular job planning meetings will be undertaken with the post holder to ensure that the appointee is remunerated for any additional activities undertaken and that the job plan accurately reflects the overall workload undertaken by the post holder.

The supporting professional activities (SPAs) allocation within the provisional job plan is an illustrative guide and will be finalised following individual agreement with successful candidates.

Further discussion on supporting professional activities will depend on the Trust’s requirements and the individual’s particular expertise.

Salary

This is as described in the Medical and Dental Terms and Conditions, in line with the Consultant Contract (2003). The current full time salary scale (as of July 2020) ranges from £84,559 to £114,003 a year with eight thresholds.

The on call supplement is Category A and attracts a supplement of 5% of basic salary.

Office Accommodation

Office accommodation will be provided for the appointee with secretarial support.

Management Responsibility

All Consultants are required to attend the monthly Directorate Meetings. Post holders will be expected to share in administrative duties allocated by mutual agreement within the Directorate. As part of the Consultant Team, the consultant will offer mentoring support and lead the existing clinical team through, one-to-one support, individual case management and complex cases, identifying development needs and suggesting CPD (Continuous Professional Development) opportunities and responding to clinical enquiries via e-mail and telephone.

Teaching/Research

The consultant will be required to participate in programmes for teaching clinical students, training junior doctors and in clinical examinations. The post-holder’s contribution to teaching, training and research will be included in the regular job plan review. Teaching will take place during programmed activities and flexibly at other times.

  • To provide conditions for improved training opportunities in line with national and local recommendations arising out of GMC and related requirements
  • To supervise and manage the work of his/her junior medical staff and participate in the training and development of these staff to the standards required by the Royal Colleges.

Clinical Governance & Audit

The consultant will participate in clinical governance activities, including clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement activities as required by the Trust, and external accrediting bodies. There are 6 half day clinical governance meetings per annum which substitute regular fixed sessions. There is a weekly consultant meeting before MDT on Friday to discuss any issues during the week and to plan for next week.

Personal & Professional Development

The post-holder will be required to keep himself/herself fully up-to-date with their relevant area of practice and be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the Trust.

The Trust supports the requirements for continuing professional development as laid down by the Royal College of Physicians and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.

Medical revalidation is the process by which the General Medical Council (GMC) confirms the continuation of a doctor’s licence to practise in the UK, provides greater assurance to patients, the public, employers and other healthcare professionals that licensed doctors are up-to-date and fit to practise. It is a key component of a range of measures designed to improve the quality of care for patients.

The Trust supports Royal College guidance on provision of mentors for new consultants in line with GMC recommendations. All newly appointed consultant staff are provided with a list of locally trained mentors who are available for ongoing support as required.

They will have overall responsibility for the small onsite comprising of OHN, OHA, Physio and OHT.

This is a full- time opportunity where the successful individual will work Monday-Friday typically 8.00am-4.00pm with some cover occasionally until 6.00pm.

Occupational Health Advisor with Leisure & Brewing experience to work at their site in East Anglia.

Our client is interested in applications from experienced OHA’s, with an OH qualification, and with a wide experience in all aspects of OHA practice, in particular sickness absence and wellbeing. You must have a UK driving licence and your own car.

The role involves 60% case management and 40% wellbeing. This is a newly created role so you will be tasked with setting up a brand-new wellbeing programme for the business. You will therefore need to be a dynamic worker with the capacity to manage both aspects of the role.

Main duties within this role Include: (guideline only)

· Ensure compliance with Department of Health, H&S and other guidelines/legislation

· Advise, monitor, and assess clinical practice of the OH team

· Assess, plan, implement, deliver and evaluate programmes of care

· Work with divisional directors/managers to implement company objectives

OVERVIEW

Applications are invited for a Registrar / LAS SpR / Speciality Doctor / StR4+ in General Surgery. The post will commence as soon as possible (ASAP). This post offers the opportunity to develop general registrar level skills and possibly more advanced skills for those interested and those doctors with the appropriate experience to do so.

GENERAL DUTIES (guideline only)

· Appropriate clinical responsibility for the care of patients delegated by the consultant to his/ her charge. Co responsibility for the proper functioning of the General Surgery department, including the supervision of more junior medical staff.

· Participation in the Registrar on call rota and to provide cover in exceptional circumstances for colleague’s absence.

· Attending clinics and assessing patients and formulating treatment decisions seeking advice from the consultant as appropriate.

· Attending sessions with the consultant and assisting or performing procedures as appropriate.

· Running of wards with consultant cover on site during the day, consultant off site after hours.

· Participation in clinical audit.

· Attendance at clinical meetings and case conferences as appropriate.

· Working within a multidisciplinary team.

· Teaching and training staff in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriate.

· Communication with other team members as appropriate.

· Co-ordinating appropriate medical disciplines concerned with care for your speciality and communicating appropriately with general practitioners (GP’s) and community agencies.

· Assessment, care and treatment of patients presenting acutely to the speciality and referred to the speciality.

· Conducting daily ward rounds on inpatients under the consultant’s care, supervising the junior doctors whilst the patient is in their care.

· In conjunction with the admitting clinical teams and the wider health economy to develop and implement integrated General Surgery pathways throughout the hospital / trust.

· Participation in relevant audit for the department and quality assurance procedures.

· Abide by the clinical & Corporate Governance policies of the hospital/ trust.

· To make sure that the guidance from the GMC (General Medical Council) on Good Medical Practise is at the heart of your clinical practise.

· To keep up to date with General Surgery knowledge by Continuous Medical Education in the best interest of the patient and your personal development.

· Although a timetable will be provided, you will be expected to be flexible, in the interest of patient care and to meet the needs of the department as decided by the general manager and clinical lead for your department – General Surgery.

· To contribute to the wider corporate and organisational needs of the hospital / trust as appropriate.

In addition doctors will be required to:

· Adhere to hospital / trust procedures e.g. Health and Safety at Work, Equal Opportunities policies etc.

· Work to the hospital/ trusts values- Put Patients First, Take Ownership, Respect Others, Be Positive.

· Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing needs of the job, to seek medical education as appropriate and encourage and support staff development and training as appropriate with your grade.

· Attend Statutory, essential and mandatory training.

· Respect the confidentiality of all matters relating to their employment and other members of staff. All Members of staff are required to comply with the requirements of the data protection act 1998.

JOB PLAN

To be discussed with the Clinical Lead of General Surgery and departmental service manager – all job plans are made with the agreement of the doctor and needs of the General Surgery department.

SALARY

The salary is based on the national salary scale as outlined in the Medical and Dental Terms and Conditions – £45,124 to £77,519 per annum not inclusive of extra hours, these are paid in addition to basic salary.

PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The post-holder will be required to keep himself / herself up-to-date with their relevant area of practise and be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the hospital / trust / GMC.

The trust supports the requirements for continuing professional development as set down by the Royal College’s and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities, this is also the same for GMC Revalidation.

STUDY LEAVE

Professional or study leave is granted for purposes approved by the trust and includes time off for study, research, teaching, examining, taking examinations, visiting clinics external (if required) to the hospital / trust and attending professional conferences. Study leave allowance is a maximum of 10 days per annum.
