Job title: Deputy MLRO – UK / Remote

Company: Taptap Send

Job description: Our Mission

Reduce inequity by helping immigrants move money home by becoming the leading cross-border fintech for immigrants.

The Team

Founded by Harvard grads / 3rd-time founders — also founded Segovia (successful exit) and GiveDirectly (
300M revenue, fastest-growing NGO).

Top performers from top and varied organizations (e.g., Bain, Bolt, Google, McKinsey, SafeBoda, Uber, Zipline) — we like moving fast, and we hire people that do as well.

Driven by mission, guided by values (see below) – in deed, not just word.

Team as global as the mission,
30 languages from 25 countries (i.e., if you’re interested in learning to make Chicken Moambe, we’re the place).

About Us

Taptap Send is backed by top VCs (Spark, Canaan, Reid Hoffman, Breyer Capital, etc.), rapidly growing and a great place for those looking for both impact and a fast-paced tech startup environment. Read more about the journey in Reid Hoffman’s or TechCrunch

Launched in 2019, Taptap is tapping into a transformative shift in global finance: from banks to phones. While this has affected wealthier countries as well, it has been nothing short of a revolution for the emerging markets where the overwhelming majority of population had been unable to access digital finance previously. Its first product, Taptap Send, allows immigrants to send money home instantly and with no fee*, saving money in the process. With a formal market size of
700B alone, we’ve got a lot more saving to do for our users. And that’s just the beginning….

Our Investors

Spark Capital, Canaan, Reid Hoffman, Breyer Capital (Jim Breyer), Unbound (Shravin Mittal), Wamda (Fadi Ghandour), Firstminute Capital, Slow Ventures (Sam Lessin), Helios Partners (Souleymane Ba), Crossbeam Ventures (Ali Hamed), Nikesh Arora, Samih Toukan, and many other context-specific angels

*We charge fees for transfers on fixed exchange rate corridors (e.g., XOF, XAF).

The role

We’re seeking a seasoned compliance professional with 3+ years of experience for our UK business, an FCA-regulated payments institution (EMI) from which we service our UK customers. The role is full-time and can be based anywhere in the UK. The Deputy MLRO will work alongside the UK Compliance Officer / MLRO in overseeing the AML compliance and reporting program for Taptap Send’s UK business in line with the requirements of the FCA and our partners.

This role is full time and based in the UK (ideally London but remote possible). You will report to the UK Compliance Officer as well as the Group Head of Financial crime.

Responsibilities

  • Support in maintaining our regulatory licence in the UK
  • Support in the regulatory reporting for our UK business, and help prepare responses to information requests from external parties
  • Support the preparation of internal compliance reports to management and the board
  • Assist in drafting our regulatory compliance documentation, policies and procedures as they relate to AML and financial crime
  • Continuously improve systems and processes to monitor our regulatory risk, compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies
  • Assist in the testing of our compliance programs and support resolution of any issues
  • Work closely with 3rd line auditors to improve our compliance program and controls
  • Prepare SARs on behalf of the UK Compliance Officer to report to the FIU
  • Support the delivery of our global partner due diligence programs

You have

  • An in-depth understanding of UK AML/CFT legislation and regulations
  • 3+ years of experience in a regulated financial institution in a compliance or compliance-related role, with strong preference for someone with a background in international remittances or FX
  • Experience using technology to solve compliance issues (transaction monitoring, sanction screening, etc)
  • Attention to detail while still seeing the bigger picture
  • The ability to help create and foster an effective compliance culture
  • The willingness to solve problems and build systems, sometimes from scratch
  • Good communication skills and the ability to express opinions and concerns clearly
  • ACAMS, ICA or a similar qualification
  • Right to work in the UK

Benefits (UK)

  • Holidays: 25 personal holidays, 9 TTS holidays (incl. Bank holidays)
  • Employer pension contributions on qualifying earnings
  • TTS Equipment & WFH set-up in line with policy
  • Axa Private health insurance (100% coverage), dental and vision
  • Axa Employee Assistance Programme (mental health, life management, counselling)
  • Free subscription to Headspace mindfulness app
  • Learning and Development budget for your professional development needs

Impact first.

Team next.

Accept reality.

Propose solutions.

Win with grit.

Be proactively candid, with yourself and others.

Love the particular.

Own it.

Create positive energy.

Maybe, even have fun.

Equal Opportunity Employer

Taptap Send is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to building an inclusive and diverse workforce. All employment decisions are decided on the basis of qualifications, experience and business need. We strongly encourage applications who are members of underrepresented communities to apply.

If you require reasonable adjustments to be made during the recruitment process, please do not hesitate to let us know. Any information you provide us in this respect will only be used to accommodate your requirements.

Note: we recognize imposter syndrome is real – any candidate that does not perfectly fit every characteristic of this role is still strongly encouraged to apply.

Job title: Access Safety and Security Deputy Director

Company: International Rescue Committee

Job description: IRC has been present in Nigeria since 2012, when the organization responded to flooding in Kogi state. In early 2014, IRC opened a field office in Mubi town of Adamawa state in NE Nigeria, followed by offices in Yola (Adamawa state) in November 2014 and Maiduguri (Borno state) in October 2015. IRC has ECHO, OFDA, and Gates funds to respond to humanitarian, nutrition, GBV, and WASH activities. In late 2014 and early 2015, IRC received additional funds from SV, SIDA, USAID, and UNICEF to carry out education, child protection, general protection, emergency food distributions, shelter support, and NFI distributions to newly displaced IDPs. In late 2015 into early 2016, IRC received Swiss and UNHCR funds for additional emergency response humanitarian-focused programming in NE Nigeria. In July 2016, a nutritional and food security crisis emerged in Borno state, and IRC began a rapid scale-up of its program intervention in that area, including the startup of programming outside the state capital, Maiduguri. IRC anticipates continued expansion beyond Maiduguri, which requires additional security monitoring and management to ensure that IRC teams remain safe as they go into newly accessible areas of NE Nigeria.
