The Opportunity

The Newcomer Program Curriculum Developer will implement best practices to create relevant curriculum for language learners that integrates PBLA structures into Employment Language programming, and support the teaching team across all language programs. Reporting to the Employment Supervisor and working in collaboration with the program Team Leads (particularly the PBLA Lead and Employment Programs Lead) with regard to creating activities, instructional materials ,and assisting with any online support that teachers will need, the Newcomer Program Curriculum Developer will be responsible for:

Responsibilities

  • Conduct needs assessments to determine the current needs of clients and instructors;
  • Research current trends in English language learning to determine best practices, workplace essential skills, and online activities and instructional design;
  • Create new and innovative task-based curricula to meet the needs of learners and instructors, adhering to PBLA guidelines, and CLB framework, as applicable;
  • Design creative, appropriate and relevant outcome-based materials for teaching purposes;
  • Work collaboratively with Team Leads and Instructors across newcomer programming team to pilot new curricula;
  • Create clear and effective training materials to support each team as required;
  • Provide technical and troubleshooting assistance related to online platforms, mobile devices, and other instructional tech support that teachers need;
  • Organize educational development short courses, seminars, and workshops to support the implementation program requirement, learning outcomes, learning experiences, and assessment practices.
  • Develop processes to evaluate and edit new curricula;
  • Prepare reports and curriculum documents to share with the individual teams;
  • Maintain accurate records to ensure program accountability;
  • Carry out additional duties as required.

Skills and qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree, Community College diploma or similar from an accredited institution
  • A recognized TESL Education credential or valid equivalent as defined by TESL Canada
  • Heightened sensitivity to the needs of newcomer adult and youth learners
  • Experience in curriculum development and/or mapping; assessment plans; learning outcomes; and/or educational technology is required
  • A minimum of 2 years work experience in a cross-cultural environment
  • Must have demonstrated excellent analytical skills, initiative and the ability to work independently
  • Substantial knowledge of various LMS, especially Avenue.
  • Must be fluent in the English language; knowledge of other languages is an asset
  • Exceptional oral and written English skills
  • Computer competency in Microsoft programs
  • Experience working with learning management systems or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to adapt to and learn new technologies independently.
  • Experience using the Canadian Language Benchmarks and PBLA.
  • Strong teamwork and verbal and written communication skills are required.

The vacancy

DN Colleges Group is looking to employ a part-time Administrator at its Doncaster Campus. The successful candidate will perform a key role in a high-performing Curriculum Support Team, working with curriculum areas to undertake a wide range of administrative and student data-related duties, to deliver a professional and customer-focussed service to internal and external customers and students; ensuring that data quality and data management across the student life cycle operates effectively.

The ability to work flexibly, to tight deadlines, to be able to adapt to an ever-changing environment and also to handle information and resolve issues in a methodical, intelligent and accurate manner are essential. Relevant experience of working in an educational environment would be an advantage. The successful candidate must be computer literate.

Working pattern 3 days per week – days negotiable. Total 22.5 hours.
