Department: Housing & Gender Based Violence

Reports to: Program Supervisor

Location: Hamilton, ON

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week

FOUR (4) TEMPORARY FULL TIME POSITIONS AVAILABLE

Provide support to women accessing the Carole Anne’s Place program, an Out of the Cold program, using integrated feminist anti-racist/anti-oppressive trauma perspective;

  • Supports include crisis intervention, supportive counseling, referrals, advocacy, brief goal planning, and programming while ensuring adherence to the YWCA’s vision, mission and values;
  • Supports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision and values;
  • Work with women to identify & support their personal goals and objectives;
  • Liaison with community partners (including Emergency Services, Housing Providers, Housing First Programs, hospitals);
  • Conducting initial assessments for the woman accessing services;
  • Provide crisis intervention and counseling support;
  • Work with women in developing safety plans relayed to violence, addictions and mental health;
  • Offer referrals and assist clients in navigating services and housing in the community;
  • Advocate on behalf of women;
  • Provide daily programming;
  • Data collections (of outputs, outcomes and attendance) and record keeping;
  • Maintain confidentiality;
  • Preparing program and cleaning the rooms used for the program;
  • Cleaning biohazardous fluids (such as vomit or blood);
  • Perform general housekeeping duties such as but not limited to completing laundry;
  • Work safely, report all workplace hazards and follow all YWCA Hamilton Health and Safety policies and procedures;
  • Be familiar and adhere to the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Safety Insurance Board Act (WSIA), Human Rights and Employment Standards Act;
  • Participate in annual health & safety training provided by the YWCA;
  • Attend and participate in staff/team meeting;
  • Perform other duties as required.

NECESSARY TRAINING:

  • Non Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) – Annual (All YWCA Employees);
  • WHMIS – Annual (All YWCA Employees);
  • Health and Safety Training – Provided by the YWCA;
  • Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities – Provided by the YWCA;
  • Other training as required.

Qualifications

  • Must have post-secondary education in Social Work/Social Services or related field;
  • Committed to advocating for and empowering women;
  • Experience working with marginalized women;
  • Proven experience in crisis management and de-escalation techniques;
  • Knowledge of social housing and shelter system in Hamilton;
  • Experience working in a diverse community or setting;
  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational and time management skills;
  • Good knowledge of community resources;
  • Integrated feminist, anti-racist/anti-oppressive analysis;
  • Ability to work from a trauma informed practice;
  • Must be flexible; able to cover weekend shifts in the event of no coverage;
  • Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset;
  • Non Violence Crisis Intervention Certification a strong asset;
  • ASIST Certification a strong asset;
  • Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police Check or willingness to obtain at own cost;
  • Must have current Standard First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain (holders of an Emergency First Aid Certification will be required to recertify under the Standard First Aid designation);
  • Attend and participate in mandatory training such as but not limited to WHMIS, Non Violent Crisis Intervention Training (NVCI).
