Autism Practitioners within Fife work alongside the Senior Autism Practitioner and team members to develop personalised support plans as well as building positive relationships with the supported individuals, their families, health professionals and other stakeholders to ensure the supported individuals life goals and aspirations are at the centre of their support. As an Autism Practitioner, experience of working within social care is desirable but not essential as we are seeking to appoint people who share our values, COLLABORATION, COMPASSION, CHANGE MAKERS, CONTRIBUTION, and have an interest in building relationships. We will support you to learn and develop within the role and offer an extensive autism specific training programme.

On a day-to-day basis, Autism Practitioners enable supported individuals to take part in their chosen activities, maintain their tenancies and support individuals to make informed choices that matter. Required support may include personal care, promoting independence and active citizenship, support with household chores etc. You can also expect to be out and about supporting each individual to access and engage in the local community and taking part in activities that they enjoy.

Location: Folkestone, Kent

Please note, this service will be moving to the Thanet District in the near future, so we welcome applications from outside the Folkstone area. All travel expenses will be paid from the Thanet area to Folkestone whilst in this transition.

Salary: £21,450 per annum pro-rata plus benefits. Sleep-ins are paid additionally at £50 per sleep.

Hours: Up to 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Sunday on a shift rota basis.

Employment type: Full-time or Part-time, Permanent or Casual.

You will work on a shift rota basis, which will consist of earlies, late and long days; sleep-ins are compulsory in this role.

Who will you be supporting?

‘Hi, I’m currently living in my own home in Folkestone, Kent.

Experience supporting people like me, a man with autism, would be essential. I am looking for people who are calm, patient and a positive to join my team. You need to support me to lead the life I want and encourage me to be gradually become more skilled and confident.

I like to go out. Therefore, we are looking for drivers so you must hold a valid driving licence and have a willingness to drive. I enjoy visiting castles and love to go swimming, so I would love it, if you like these things too. At home, I like a quiet and happy environment, but also love Harry Potter and Disney Pixar too!

You will have knowledge of autism and be physically fit, and 100% reliable. I have autism and sometimes my behaviour can be challenging but that shouldn’t stop me doing the things I love and leading an active life.

Sometimes I will need your encouragement to learn life skills and gain independence, but that’s something everyone needs at times. It’s essential that you are gentle, can see the value in small gains. You will follow coaching from my behaviour support plan and are willing to help and support me when needed. We will get along just fine!

This is a challenging role but very rewarding for the right person.
