BC Cancer – Abbotsford is looking for a family physician to work part-time within the Radiation Oncology Department as a General Practitioner in Oncology (GPO). The GPO works collaboratively with Radiation Oncologists and other medical specialists, nurses and clerical staff in an interdisciplinary working environment. The role includes ambulatory care of patients on therapy and in follow up. There is a component of the role that supports inpatient care as well. There is no on call service associated with this role.

BC Cancer – Abbotsford is a full service cancer centre that provides service to approximately 1800 new patients per year. The centre has a full range of medical oncology, diagnostic and support service and is committed to excellence in clinical care and focused on developing academic excellence in a provincial cancer care environment.

Abbotsford, the “City in the Country”, is nested in the shadow of majestic Mt. Baker, in the eastern Fraser Valley, and has a blend of modern urban living and a friendly country atmosphere. Thanks to the comfortable west coast climate and surrounding geography, a variety of recreational opportunities are nearby. Abbotsford is at a short drive to Vancouver, BC and Seattle, WA.

In addition to being licensed to practice as a family physician in British Columbia, you will also meet the requirements for appointment as a member of the medical staff of the BC Cancer Agency and Abbotsford Regional Hospital. In-patient and oncology experience is an asset but is not required. You must also be suitable for appointment to the University of British Columbia. No previous experience in radiation oncology is required; the department will support the successful applicant in developing the requisite expertise for the role.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
