System Safety Engineer (Multiple Openings):
Bell is seeking multiple System Safety Engineers for the FLRAA V280 Program.
The System Safety Engineer is responsible for developing, managing and communicating the system safety methodology for a new military development program to internal and external customers through identification and analysis of potential hazards in design, operation and maintenance. The position will be at the forefront of emerging system safety techniques including Model Based Safety Analysis (MBSA) and Model Based Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). There are multiple positions open that will be based at Bell’s Ft. Worth, TX headquarters facility.
Position Responsibilities:
- Plan, define and verify System Safety requirements and Safety Analysis artifacts to ensure design integrity and safety.
- Work within engineering teams to ensure air vehicle safety of flight
- Influence air vehicle design to improve system safety features and design
- Perform Model Based Safety Analysis (MBSA) in coordination with air vehicle Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) efforts
- Perform Systems Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA) on the air vehicle, subsystems and components
- Ensure effective Systems Safety Engineering efforts are conducted through identification and analysis of potential hazards from concept definition through development, production and product fielding.
- Develop fault management techniques to be employed by the system hardware/software.
- Perform the necessary hazard analyses to identify potentially hazardous conditions and recommend actions that would contribute to the minimization or prevention of hazards.
- Perform Safety Risk Analysis, develop analysis reports, provide validation/verification of requirements and provide feedback to the program and customer.
- Administer System Safety activities on assigned program IPTs. Interface with the customer and IPT Teammates on safety related issues. Monitor, investigate, and resolve issues relative to System Safety Engineering.
- Represent Bell with military/industry at System Safety Working Groups.
- Provide safety/crashworthiness experience to engineering and management personnel by various methods ranging from informal discussions to formal presentations.
- Review of supplier Safety Assessment Reports.
- Perform budget estimating and management tasks.
Qualifications
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Math, Physics – or related science discipline – is required.
Position Requirements:
- Experience at all levels will be considered with a minimum of 2 years’ experience. Positions at various Engineering levels will be offered, depending on experience.
- Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Systems Modeling Language (SysML) experience or Model Based Safety Analysis (MBSA) experience Is required.
- Requires experience in development of Fault Hazard Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis, Safety Assessment Reports and supporting safety artifacts.
- Experience with quantitative reliability and maintainability analysis is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
- Demonstrated Communication Skills needed to brief top-level management, customers and/or large groups on an occasional-to-frequent basis are required.
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-882 System Safety Programs and risk assessment process is required.
- Familiarity with ARP-4761 and ARP-4754 is preferred.
- Candidates must be eligible to obtain Secret Security Clearance (Preferred)
Preferred Skills:
- Rotorcraft Pilot Certificate or equivalent military qualifications
- Pilot, Aircrew, and/or military maintenance experience on Bell Helicopter products.
- Working knowledge of EVMS and Cost Account Manger experience.
- Software development experience
