<p> Yester Estate Walled Gardens is East Lothian’s newest rural events and weddings venue, set in the ancient walled gardens at Yester, Gilford.</p>
<p> <b>The Role</b></p>
<p> Yester Estate is looking for two experienced, enthusiastic hands-on Gardeners to maintain and further develop the various gardens on a beautiful family run private estate, set within 500 acres of woodland, farmland and policy ground.</p>
<p> This is a live out role with the people reporting to the estate manager and estate owners on a regular basis, the gardeners will be part of small gardening team who will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and development of the existing walled gardens and lawns to event standard and to maintain and enhance a gorgeous private garden for the family to enjoy.</p>
<p> <b>Key Requirements</b> </p>
<ul>
<li>Hands on year-round garden maintenance and enhancement development</li>
<li>Care of herbaceous and shrub borders Kitchen Garden, cut flowerbeds and fruit trees</li>
<li>Propagation, greenhouse and nursery bed management</li>
<li>Management and improvement, including a croquet lawn</li>
<li>Garden machinery maintenance</li>
<li>Garden Design and implementation</li>
<li>Lawn Care</li>
<li>Be a part of a small team of gardeners and seasonal staff adhering to the estate Health and Safety policy.</li>
</ul>
<p> <b>The Candidate</b> </p>
<ul>
<li>Previous relevant experience, including at least 2 years gardening experience on a private estate/household</li>
<li>Excellent horticultural and plant knowledge and plant husbandry</li>
<li>Experience in boarder and garden design including implementation</li>
<li>Able to work both independently and as part of a wider estate team</li>
<li>Ability and desire to work outdoors in all weathers and to engage in physically demanding work</li>
<li>Flexible approach to work, being able to help out on the wider estate where necessary and occasional weekend work in the lead up to events</li>
<li>Experience in garden machinery is desirable</li>
<li>Chainsaw license, PA1 and PA6</li>
<li>First Aid at Work Training</li>
<li>Experience in machine/vehicle maintenance</li>
<li>Experience in driving quad bikes/heavy machinery/tractors and attachments</li>
<li>Ability to commute into Yester Estate on a daily basis</li>
<li>Full UK Driver’s License</li>
